About the role:
The role of Learning Support Assistant is a valued one here at The Elms Academy.

Ensuring that the academic and pastoral needs of students with special educational needs are met is a key priority for us and we welcome applicants who would like to contribute to this vision.

The main duties are to work closely with classroom teachers to support students in class to enable them to make the progress they are capable of.

The role also entails being a keyworker for students with an EHCP, overseeing their progress and maintaining IEPs (individual education plans).

The LSA could also support pupils in 1-to-1 sessions, in small class or in small withdrawal groups. You will be directly accountable to and fully supported by the SENCo.

Amongst other things, our LSAs provide in class support - they will co-plan directly with class teachers, create high quality resources, provide one to one interventions, run small group sessions and take responsibility for delivering programmes of support in both literacy and numeracy.

Our LSAs take part in whole school staff training and get regular input from the Speech and Language Therapist, the Borough EAL Coordinator and Educational Psychologist in how to best support the needs of our students.

About the Person:

You will be enthusiastic about working with young people within a school environment to help them to fulfil their academic ambitions.

You will be determined, dynamic and inspiring and will demonstrate high professional standards and high expectations of all students at The Elms Academy.

You will need to have a good general education to CSE/O/GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths.

This is the ideal opportunity for aspiring teachers to experience life in a secondary school.

Alternatively, you may be looking to build on current experience of supporting students and looking to develop your skill set as an LSA.

If this is you then please get in touch.

These results are due to the unique culture and community that has developed at The Elms Academy.

The highest expectations of students and real academic rigour are combined with a strong focus on developing the whole child.

There is a culture in which every single child matters, and must be supported to achieve their full potential.

Unlike local selective schools, our pupils are from a variety of backgrounds and are mixed gender, meaning that Grammar Stream pupils will learn how to socialise and communicate effectively with others.

41% of our students are pupil premium (nearly twice the national average) and so we are working to help some of the UK's most disadvantaged students achieve the best GCSE results possible and thus change lives.

All staff at the academy are driven by a strong mission to provide educational excellence to students with the least privilege.

The Elms Academy is a close-knit and diverse community that learns together, has fun together and continues on our journey towards all-around excellence for each individual student year after year.

The Academy has cultivated a friendly and welcoming environment for all its staff, with a strong collaborative culture that has community at its heart.

Our teachers feel empowered, supported and are provided with the highest-quality professional development and effective performance management.

We pride ourselves on ensuring that every member of staff is supported to be the best they can in the classroom and to achieve their career aspirations.

That helps us to build our own talent pipeline.

We have made staff wellbeing a priority by promoting good physical and mental health and listening to the feedback from all staff.

Here is the opportunity for you to join one of the most happy and successful schools in United Learning and to be part of the incredible journey that The Elms Academy has been on.
