- About the role
To provide wellbeing interventions, advice, guidance, and support for students experiencing medium to long-term/enduring and/or complex mental health difficulties to enable them to succeed at College.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Effectively manage and report on a case load of students who require frequent/on-going mental health support in line with best practice
- Coordinate support for students experiencing more complex, longerterm mental health conditions
- Make appropriate referrals to external agencies (statutory and charitable/third sector) for medium to longerterm mental health
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding disclosures and concerns which relate to the welfare and wellbeing of students in a timely manner, including liaising with external agencies
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and uptodate records of student information and of intervention on all cases of safeguarding and mental health concerns and to collate this data and generate reports where required
- Actively seek supervision for all aspects of post, recognizing personal and professional boundaries and limitations
- Work collaboratively with the BeSafe team; in particular, the DSL and DDSL
- Fixed Term up to 29 June 2023, 15 hours per week, 2 days Mondays & Wednesdays
Qualifications and training:
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Mental Health Support
- Mental Health First Aid trainer accreditation (or willingness to complete training)
- Level 2 qualification (GCSE A
- C, or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Evidence of recent continuing professional development and a willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post
Skills and expertise:
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the wide range of mental health presentations including 'personality disorder' diagnoses, selfharm and suicidal ideation and intent
- Experience of working with young people with mental health difficulties, and ability to implement support requirements within the context of an FE environment
- Knowledge of risk and protective factors in relation to a range of emotional, psychological, and interpersonal difficulties
- Understanding and awareness of mental health and safeguarding legislation & guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act 1983, Equality Act 2010, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Data Protection Act 1998, KCSIE)
