INDEPENDENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ADVISORS

1 x post based in Hereford (including 2 days on site at Hereford Hospital)

1 x post based in Telford & Wrekin

Both Posts 37 Hours Per Week

Contract until 31st March 2025

Salary

£ 25,088.79 per annum for those holding IDVA Safelives Qualifications

(£24,047.79 per annum for unqualified IDVA's with progression to £25,088.79

per annum upon successful completion of IDVA Safelives training)


As an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor, you will be part of helping us achieve our mission of reducing the incidents of domestic abuse in the West Mercia region.


The role is to provide crisis support and advocacy to victims of domestic abuse who have been assessed as being at high risk.

**The role will involve:
- *
  • Working as part of the IDVA Service to ensure that victims of domestic abuse from marginalised communities who have been assessed as being at high risk are provided with the best possible advocacy, advice and support
  • To participate in the safety plan of victims referred to the local Multiagency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)
  • Carrying out and recording an assessment of the needs and risk (DASH) of each case, using information from key partners e.g. Police, Probation and Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) to inform the risk assessment.
  • Developing and implementing a structured individual safety and support plan with service users, focusing on meeting their cultural needs.
  • Cocoordinating the plan and liaising with agencies to ensure the safety plan is robust.
  • Supporting service users through the legal, criminal or civil justice systems, drafting orders as and when required.

We are looking for someone who has.

  • Experience of advocacy and support work with vulnerable people
  • Experience of working with high risk victims of domestic abuse from marginalised communities
  • An IDVA Safelives Qualification (desirable)
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the importance of culture, faith and heritage for those experiencing domestic abuse
  • Experience of working in a multiagency framework and of managing a case load
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse issues and the needs of adults, young people and children affected by it
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and child protection processes and practice
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good written/verbal communication skills
  • The ability to maintain clear professional boundaries.
