This tragic incident, caused by an errant vehicle, was the catalyst for the development of an Incursion Warning System for road workers which is now recognised as best practice by industry and Highways England.

About the role of Product Design Team Leader

We are looking for a Product Design Team Leader who can help us develop the next generation of IoT technologies to enable Connected Vehicles safely navigate through roadworks.

HRS is the leading European provider of smart technology for temporary traffic management worksites.

By designing, manufacturing, and operating our new digital products, we are changing how Connected and Autonomous vehicles will interact with the roadworks of the future.

Our technology platform uses the latest 4G/IoT communications, precision GNSS, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Cloud services.

Through our European group of service organisations, we are building the largest real time network of live roadworks information, with projects currently ongoing with government agencies, vehicle OEMs, data aggregators and mapping providers.

You will work on helping us to develop, commercialise and support a range of innovative smart connected products and be responsible for our New Product Development (NPD) process.

You will lead expand your multi-disciplined engineering team, whilst engaging with outsourced suppliers to increase development capacity. You will be expected to work on your own initiative to deliver a portfolio of parallel product developments.

Responsibilities of the Product Design Team Leader

• Leading a multidisciplined team of engineers (Electronics, Firmware, Mechanical) and contractors to develop and release high quality products
• Working with Product managers to produce complete and accurate product specifications as a basis for internal and/or external development
• Project managing the implementation of product specifications by the internal team and/or external partners
• Overseeing new product development processes and project life cycles from beginning to end and managing the efficient resource allocation across multiple parallel products
• Reviewing engineering work packages from the internal development team and external partners
• Developing and revising statements of work with accurate cost and time estimates
• Managing product compliance including UKCA, CE and FCC
• Researching and introducing new technologies to develop the future product roadmap
• Ensuring all new products are sufficiently documented by producing and maintaining technical handover and production packs
• Work proactively with internal and external operations partners to ensure the smooth introduction of products into manufacture and the effective resolution of arising issues
• Analysing user requirements and metrics to ensure customer satisfaction upon completion of the project
• Supporting the continual improvement and refinement of development procedures and processes to provide the required levels of quality, accuracy, and agility

What good looks like for the Product Design Team Leader

• A minimum of 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams, with an in depth understanding of the product development process and product life cycle
• Experience covering the entire technology stack involved in IoT products, including mechanical design, microelectronics, embedded firmware
• Knowledge of key engineering design tools e.g., Altium, SolidWorks and a range of programming ID
