About GDAS


Gwent Drug and Alcohol Service (GDAS) offers support to individuals and families impacted by substance use across all 5 local authorities.

To enhance our services, we are expanding our team in alignment with the Gwent APB Substance Misuse Commissioning Team's vision.


We are looking for empathetic and committed individuals with diverse backgrounds to help establish an innovative drug and alcohol treatment service.

We encourage applicants with experience in various fields such as housing, mental health, primary care, secondary care, youth services, probation, and more, as transferable skills are highly valued.


We welcome candidates with personal experience in drug and alcohol use, mental health, or supporting others with similar experiences.


Role Purpose:


  • Offer flexible and responsive support to individuals in need of outreach services, utilizing community spaces like streets, community venues, and service users' homes.
  • Provide a range of support and interventions, from health coordination to therapeutic treatments

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Case Work_

  • Manage a caseload of service users, offering initial assessments, brief treatments, interventions, and referrals.
- Ensure drug and alcohol service users receive appropriate care through comprehensive assessments, care coordination, and tailored treatment plans.

  • Provide detox and aftercare services, offer a suite of interventions for complex needs, perform risk assessments, and develop management plans.
  • Deliver services in various settings, including streets, homes, hospitals, and community venues.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and inspire individuals towards positive lifestyle changes.

Harm Reduction Provision _

  • Deliver outreach harm reduction services, including training, needle exchange programs, and testing services in the community.
  • Provide health care advice, crisis intervention support, and engage with rarely heard populations.
  • Contribute to innovative harm reduction initiatives.

Compliance and Information Management_

  • Maintain compliance with internal systems and client records, conduct monitoring and evaluation, and adhere to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks.

Networking and Awareness Raising _

  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, represent the organization in forums and groups, and deliver talks and training sessions.

  • Take a lead role in specific areas, engage in professional development tools, and commit to continuous learning.

  • Stay flexible, travel as needed, collaborate with different teams, and uphold the organization's vision.
