About the programme:

At Rosyth Royal Dockyard we are leading the world in the dismantling of nuclear submarines.

Our staged approach to dismantling begins with the disposal of low-level radioactive waste before removing the nuclear reactor and finally recycling the remaining vessel.

Nobody has done this before, so you will be a true pioneer working in a ground-breaking team.


What you'll be doing:


Working with experienced Radiation Protection and Radioactive Waste professionals, you'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a unique project.


On this programme you'll be involved in:

  • demonstrating compliance with relevant radiation safety and radioactive waste regulations
- drafting and implementing radiation protection/radioactive waste policies and procedures
- developing and reviewing radiation protection systems and radioactive waste arrangements
- liaising with management and the workforce (including plant managers, designers and engineers) on matters of radiation safety and radioactive waste
- assessing radiation risks in the workplace and providing advice on the design of plant, equipment and waste disposal to ensure safety
- assessing the impact of releasing radioactive material into the environment
- advising on the safe transport of radioactive materials
- liaising with regulators and other bodies.


What you'll need:


  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in a discipline such as Radiological Protection or Radioactive Waste would be ideal, but not essential.
  • Enthusiasm and a proactive approach to work, backed by excellent communication and time management skills.
  • The ability to comply with Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) security requirements.
