Description

Overview of the post

We are looking to develop a team in the theme of translational cardiovascular research and are seeking to appoint a Professor in Cardiovascular Sciences to lead this research.

This fantastic opportunity arises through a generous philanthropic donation from Mrs Dorothy Booth and from the commitment and ambition of the University and aligned NHS Trusts to deliver research to positively influence outcomes for patients living with cardiovascular disease.

The holder of this distinguished position would become the Dorothy Booth Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences.

This vision for the future is reflected by our newly awarded NIHR Manchester BRC.

The £59 million award will translate our scientific discoveries into new treatments, diagnostic tests, and medical technologies to improve patients' lives in Greater Manchester, and beyond.

Cardiovascular research runs through very many themes within the BRC and is central to new themes in Integrative Cardiovascular research, Living With and Beyond Cancer, and Rare Diseases.

The Chair post holder will become part of the team driving this strategic goal, by developing and leading research programmes to expand, promote and deliver integrative research within our major areas of cardiovascular research, including integrative cardiac physiology and heart failure; hypertension and its complications; and cardiovascular disease genomics and development.

Through our British Heart Foundation Accelerator Award we are committed to developing a collaborative cardiovascular research community in Manchester, involving basic biological and clinical scientists, medical and allied health professionals, physical scientists and humanities scholars.

The post holder will be expected to
- conduct high quality, REF returnable research that attracts substantial external funding
- provide translational insight to our preclinical research in identifying novel mechanisms underlying the development and progression of cardiovascular disease
- strengthen communication and cooperation between the University and clinical Trusts in order to facilitate rapid translation of preclinical discoveries
- inspire, train and teach the next generation of clinical academics, researchers and clinicians
- provide academic and operational leadership to help deliver the strategic goals of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences and the wider university community conducting heart and circulatory research.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.

All appointments are made on merit.

Our University is positive about flexible working - you can find out more here.
