Work for the world you want to live in.

Babcock is an international defence company operating in our focus countries of the UK, Australasia, Canada, France and South Africa, with exports to additional markets with potential to become focus countries.

Our Purpose, to create a safe and secure world, together, defines our strategy.

We have sites all-round the UK, that do loads of exciting and important things to make the world safer and more secure.

We defend nations, save lives and protect communities around the globe.

For more than a century, Babcock International Group, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly skilled engineering and training support services.

We help customers in the UK and around the world to improve the capability, reliability, and availability of their most critical assets within the four market sectors of Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear, underpinned by a deep understanding of technology integration, unique infrastructure, and specialist training.

As a Babcock HGV driving Apprentice, in the Land Training sector, you will use and support a wide range of Military Land Equipment.

The tasks are challenging and varied in an exciting environment, producing work which ensures our customers, specifically the Army's Royal Engineers, have support services they can depend on.

We have a selection of specialist roles across the driving and engineering construction disciplines, including support to tactical training activities in the field, operating complex vehicles and plant on military training areas.

Apprentices will be trained to HGV 1 (Licence Cat C+E) and then Passenger Transport licences (licence Cat D).

They will have opportunity to carry on training onto specialist vehicles such as Cranes, Plant machinery (JCBs) bridging equipments, Lorry Mounted Loaders and other specialist vehicle types.

The training is mostly practical but as you can imagine, there is theory attached to the operation of specialist equipments and on specialist terrains.

The role is based on a military Camp near Aldershot, which is the home of Combat Engineer Training for the Royal Engineers.

The Royal Engineers (RE) support field army engineering, their capabilities and history is too magnificent to sum up in a few sentences so please access more information in this link: Royal Engineers - Wikipedia.

Suffice to say the opportunity to become part of the enabling workforce within Defence is hugely interesting and differs considerably from standard HGV driving.

Within a short time of recruitment, training in HGV driving will begin. The knowledge that supports driving capability and skills will be delivered in several ways. The initial apprenticeship will set interesting targets and capabilities towards a final assessment at approximately 13 months from start.

At this point further training opportunities, including Passenger Transport Vehicle Training (pledged) and specialist vehicles capability will continue to challenge individual capabilities.

Apprentices will also complete at least one mandatory one-week deployment in support of military training activities on Army Training Areas under tactical scenarios.

This will include living out of Army Training Area accommodation, working shifts, supporting 24-hour military training activities and includes very attractive Overtime rates of pay.
