MAINTENANCE SUPPORT


Line of Responsibility:
The post holder will be responsible to the Head of Premises

As per contract


JOB PURPOSE

  • To follow the maintenance plan and undertake maintenance, decoration and repair and general upkeep work, both internally and externally within Trust school sites, making sure that any tasks are properly and promptly carried out, in a safe, tidy manner.
  • To provide cover and support for duties and colleagues within the premises department, as required.
  • To abide by and follow all procedures to ensure safe systems of work including health and safety requirements and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.

JOB SPECIFICATION

  • Undertake general repairs and maintenance tasks, including replacing locks, the unblocking of sinks, drains and toilets etc.
  • Undertake remedial repairs as required, for example, boarding up broken windows.
  • Assemble furniture and equipment as required, and ensure it is safely installed in situ.
  • To carry out painting and decoration tasks, ensuring good preparation, techniques and safe practices are used. To restore the area, replacing fixtures, fittings and furniture after.
  • Assist in the moving and replacing of furniture and equipment as required.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers and agencies where appropriate, to ensure that other repairs and maintenance are carried out.
  • To liaise with line manager regarding the maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment, e.g. heating and ventilation systems.
  • To ensure that appropriate equipment, tools and materials are used and these are replaced securely after use.
  • To report any health and safety issues observed to line manager, taking remedial action where possible to curtail risk.
  • Ensure that protective clothing is worn where necessary and that all equipment is in sound working order.
  • To abide by health and safety risk assessments and ensure these are followed by other members of the team.

Maintenance

  • To ensure that hazardous/infectious solutions and materials, e.g. broken glass, are disposed of in accordance with agreed safe working practices, removing waste to designated areas.
  • Monitor stock levels and replenish/report to line manager as required.
  • To undertake the removal of graffiti as required.
  • To replace fluorescent tubes, diffusers, light bulbs and clean coverings as required.
  • Assist in ensuring drains and gullies are kept free flowing and clean.
  • Ensure emergency exits are fully operational, kept clear and that fire equipment is correctly positioned and maintained.
  • Assist in the annual inspection of electrical equipment.
  • Undertake seasonal duties as required, for example, painting and decorating, deep cleaning to be completed during school holidays etc.
  • To establish and maintain good relationships with all students, parents/carers, colleagues, contractors, hirers and other professionals.
  • To support duties which may be required outside of remit to support premises and cleaning departments.

General

  • The post holder is required to support and encourage the school's ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the governing body.
  • To uphold the school's policy in respect of child protection matters.
  • The post holder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation.
  • All staff members participate in the school's performance management scheme.

MAINTENANCE:
PERSON SPECIFICATION


Qualifications and Essential

Experience Educated to at least GCSE grade C standard or equivalent in English and mathematics.

  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following: heating systems, plumbing, electrical/general/grounds or building maintenance, health and safety.
  • Substantial DIY and/or premises maintenance experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in working in the building industry.
  • Further qualifications related to field.
  • First Aid qualification

Knowledge and Skills Essential.

  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities including own.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the need to communicate effectively.
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy skills.
Ability to absorb and understand a wide range of information and deal with confidential issues appropriately.

  • Working knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, codes of practice, and awareness of relevant legislation such as health and safety.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of construction/building regulations.
  • Working knowledge of heating and ventilation systems.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and security
