Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest Trusts in London with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence and world class care.

We deliver care to more than 1.

6 million people a year through our three main hospitals:

Barnet (BH), Chase Farm (CF) and Royal Free (RFH) and we pride ourselves on being a supportive and friendly place to work with the patient's best interests at the heart of everything we do.


  • The urology oncology service for the Trust is currently supported by 3 RFH medical oncologists (in addition to this post): one is based fully at the Hampstead site, the other two are based at Hampstead with a day a week at either BH or CF. A further (locum) medical oncologist covering RFH and CF will take up their post imminently. There are 2 clinical oncologists based at Hampstead who also cover the urology radiotherapy practice at either the BH or the CF sites. The CF service is also supported by a Consultant Clinical Oncologist from North Middlesex Hospital, where Radiotherapy and systemic treatment is also offered to CF patients. Radiotherapy for Barnet at RFH patients is delivered at Hampstead, with systemic treatment for breast cancer being delivered at Hampstead (clinical trials), Finchley Memorial and Chase Farm Hospitals. There are cross site/joint MDTs for early urology cancer and prostate cancer. In addition, there will be a cross site patient initiated follow up (PIFU) MDT.

Education & professional Qualifications:


Essential criteria:


  • Possession of MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
  • Accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians or be within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) at time of interview
  • Eligible for GMC registration and entry onto the GMC Consultant in the specialist area of Medical Oncology

Desirable criteria:


  • Postgraduate medical degree e.g. MD/PhD

Experience:


Essential criteria:


  • Experience of and commitment to multidisciplinary working
  • Wide clinical experience in oncology
  • Experience of Urological Oncology
  • Experience of and an interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Clinical audit experience

Desirable criteria:


  • Clinical Trials experience
