The Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of


UHBW:

Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women's and Children's (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia) and Weston Business Unit.


The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking consultants in general anaesthesia to join the team based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The successful applicant will join a group of 45 substantive consultants within the general anaesthesia group. The post will be offered at 10 PAs.


This post will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and will address a flexible service requirement for adult general anaesthetic services for maxillofacial, ENT, dental, obstetrics, gynaecology, thoracic, upper & lower GI and ophthalmic surgery, fixed lines, acute and chronic pain and pre-operative assessment.


The role will be split across the following hospital sites: Bristol Royal Infirmary, St Michael's Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital, South Bristol Community Hospital and Weston General Hospital.


The applicant must hold FRCA (UK) or equivalent and be within 6 months of their CCT date at the time of interview.


The primary responsibility of the post holder is to help ensure the smooth running of the service provided by the General Anaesthetic department.

This post will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary with cross-site working covering Weston General Hospital.


The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general on-call consultant rota as well as predictable weekend working based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary site.

The post holder will be expected to use their SPA to maintain the skills required to cover the general on-call commitments.


1.5 SPA per week is allocated for continuing professional development as well as core aspects of teaching, administration, audit, management and research.

Additional SPA may be awarded to Consultants undertaking additional roles in the department and/or wider hospital. There will be annual job plan meetings during which SPA and DCC allocations will be reviewed.
