The Role

  • We are recruiting for a Senior Associate within the Governance & Cross-Cutting Standards Policy Team, in the Crosscutting Policy Department to come and play a leading role in developing our crosssector approach to governance and accountability within firms.
  • Postimplementation review of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR) developing the FCA's regulatory approach to appointed representatives
  • These are both high profile projects, requiring close engagement with HMT and FCA senior management to develop and agree our future approach in these areas.
  • The Governance & Professionalism Policy team is responsible for maintaining and leading the development of policy interventions relating to the standards of individual competence and conduct, as well as wider issues of governance and accountability across UK financial services. The work on the SM&CR is a key element of the Edinburgh Reforms. The work on Appointed Representatives is an FCA strategic priority and forms a key part of our remit.
  • The team works closely with other policy, supervision, authorisation and competition teams across the FCA. It also works closely with our General Counsel's Division (GCD) and International, as well as a range of external stakeholders including HMT and the PRA.
  • What does the role involve? What are the key responsibilities?
  • Building strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Coordinating input and engagement across a variety of departments and teams across the FCA
  • Keeping abreast of domestic and international policy developments
  • Drafting and inputting into internal and external deliverables, including consultation papers, policy statements, briefing notes, presentations and communications

  • Minimum

  • Previous proven experience of regulatory or public policy making
  • Previous experience of investigating complex information or issues, to draw reasoned inferences from quantitative and qualitative data, reaching robust and practical conclusions
  • Essential
  • A proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to support and assist others. This includes supporting team members to achieve shared goals and being selfaware to adjust your approach as the situation demands
  • The skill to make good judgements, to prioritise effectively and to adapt both approach and focus quickly and successfully
  • An ability to identify and manage key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships, and be a credible representative for the FCA
  • The aptitude to make a strong personal impact, to take a collaborative and flexible approach, to persuade with wellreasoned arguments and question where appropriate
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including an ability to distil complex issues into succinct messages and present to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Organisational skills, including the ability to manage a variety of, and competing, tasks to tight deadlines.

  • Knowledge of and experience working with accountability or governance standards in UK financial services such as the SM&CR or AR regime.

  • The FCA has London and National Pay ranges to reflect regional differences.

The salary for this role will be:

  • London up to £65,000
- _salary offered will be based on skills & experience_

  • National (roles in Leeds & Edinburgh) up to £58,500
- _salary offered will be based on skills & experience_

  • The FCA supports hybrid working and you will be expected to work 40% of your time over a month, in our office. We will consider other flexible arrangements, for example part time working, and you can discuss this with the recruiter.
