Overview
Ben Hoare Bell is a well-established legal practice operating from three offices in Sunderland, Newcastle and Gateshead. The firm has 9 Partners.


The firm has a strong ethical base and wishes to remain committed to operating within the publicly funded area of legal work, offering a high-quality service to people regardless of means.


The aim of this position is to support the Finance Manager in a range of bookkeeping, routine clerical, accounting and day to day accounts administrative work.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
To support the Finance Manager.

  • To carry out the firm's day to day financial transactions in a timely and responsible manner including but not limited to making payments, posting payments, processing bills, operating petty cash etc.
  • To record holidays, sickness and other absences of employees.
  • To take responsibility for ensuring that the firm achieves value for money in day to day office supplies and other ad hoc purchases.
  • To ensure that all financial records are completed and maintained.
  • To comply in full with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • To operate PAYE for all employees.
  • To assist the Finance Manager in the provision of ad hoc financial information and other general requirements.
  • To assist other employees with financial/accounts queries.
  • To keep the Finance Manager and COFA informed of potential accounting and billing problems.
  • To undertake appropriate training.
  • To undertake reception duties when required.


Dependant on experience the post holder may not be expected to be involved with all of the above duties from the beginning.

Full and ongoing training will be provided with the aim that the duties increase along with experience.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

  • Evidence of a good level of academic ability in Maths and English (essential).
  • Potential to undertake appropriate bookkeeping or accounting qualifications.

Experience

  • Interest or experience in accounts or finance work (essential).
  • Experience of legal, secretarial or administrative work (desirable).
  • Experience of legal aid work (desirable).

Skills (all essential)

  • Good communication (written and oral).
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of ability to handle a range of tasks and to prioritise.
  • Proven computer skills including experience in use of Microsoft Office.
  • Numerate.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Problem solving.

Personal

  • Understanding of the ethical principles of the firm.
  • Resilience.
  • Willingness to undertake or attempt the unfamiliar.
  • Due to the confidential nature of the role the postholder must be honest, trustworthy and discrete.

Job Types:

Salary:
£20,000.00-£25,000.00 per year
