LOCATION
This role will be based at SMEF office in Guildford or Woking as required.


SALARY
up to £31,000 per annum


REPORTING TO
SMEF Deputy Chief Executive Officer


JOB DESCRIPTION
- identify new suitable volunteer representatives from black and minoritised ethnic communities in addition to existing volunteers from across Surrey to form a Black and minoritised ethnic stakeholder reference group (MESRG)
- provide members of the MESRG access to training and support so that the group develops its understanding of how the system works and how to influence change.
- build foundations of a strong, active, and skilled MESRG with its own independent voice over the course of sixteen months.
- disseminate and provide briefings on key local and national topics.
- create, support, and develop the MESRG to engage with the Surrey County Council social care structures and actively participate in meetings to highlight gaps in current delivery of services. To contribute positively to discussions with partners from across the various County Council departments.
- engage Black and minoritised ethnic faith communities and community leaders to become champions on social care issues in the wider community and raise the issues they have identified in in strategic discussions and conversations with Surrey County Council health and social care departments.
- deliver on agreed terms of reference for the project and develop sixteen months work plan. At the end of the project a draft 3-years work plan will be developed.
- aim to maintain a balanced mix of faith and community leaders with deputies ensuring that there is diverse ethnic, and county wide spread of people from all the protected characteristics and support them to influence at a strategic level on health and social care. (16 volunteers in total)
- organise MESRG to convene at least 6 times a year with extra meetings and working groups as needed.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in social sciences, law or a numerate discipline from a recognised university (E)
  • Evidence of continued professional development (D)

Communications

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathically, with minority ethnic groups using a range of methods (E)

Organising and facilitation

  • Strong project management, organisational and administrative skills (E)
  • Experience of planning and conducting events which are accessible to minority ethnic groups (E)
  • Experience coordinating networks or groups in communitybased settings (D)

Supporting and supervising

  • Experience of working with volunteers (D)
  • Experience of working with black and minoritised ethnic community groups (D)

Analysis and reporting

  • Methodical approach to information gathering and reporting (E)
  • Experience of writing formal reports (E)

Knowledge and personal attributes

  • Knowledge of and a commitment towards equality and diversity and cultural awareness (E)
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults' legislation and best practice (E)

Other requirements

  • Access to the internet and a suitable area to work safely (if the applicant intends to work from home on occasions) (E)
  • Ability and willingness to travel anywhere in Surrey (E)
  • The ability to maintain high standards of health, safety and welfare at work and take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others (E)
  • The ability to comply with the organisation's policies and in particular the data protection requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults (E)
