The Role


The role of Stores & Purchasing Assistant will allow you to get involved in the smooth functioning of the manufacturing department and will involve the process of buying goods and services.

This apprenticeship standard is a great entry-level gateway into the world of procurement.

Here are a few examples of what our Purchasing & Store Assistants do:

  • Support the sourcing, ordering, receipt, inventory management and dispatch process for manufacturing, ensuring compliance with internal procedures, use of systems (ERP) and health and safety standards. Day to day inventory management of critical spares with a value of circa £4.5 million.
  • Manage end to end repair process for critical Engineering Spares.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy by performing perpetual stock counts and investigate/report discrepancies as required.
  • Support various manufacturing plants' asset reliability and availability strategy through best practice inventory management and by responding to critical production outages by sourcing and expediting goods and services to mitigate and minimise downtime.
  • Support engineers in sourcing goods and services for new assets/processes. Understand basic engineering drawings and specifications and be able to translate and convey our requirements accurately to potential suppliers.
This Apprenticeship will give you an industry recognised qualification via a Level 3 in Procurement & Supply (CIPS), with the option for additional study upon completion


The duration of this Apprenticeship Programme is 24 months and if successful, you will join our 2023 Apprenticeship Intake in September.


About You


To be eligible for this programme we need you to have achieved or be on course for 5 GCSE's including English & Maths inc.

a science at Grade C/5 or above.

Apart from a great base salary, you will be enrolled in our company bonus scheme and if eligible you will be invited to join our Company Pension Scheme where 5% employee contributions will attract contributions of 12% by Victrex - pretty darn good
