Purpose of role:
To support Sixth Form students with their organisational and academic skills enabling them to achieve their academic potential.


Main duties:

  • To identify students for inclusion in academic support, extracurricular activities and other opportunities alongside the rest of the Sixth Form team through the use of data and forming constructive working relationships with the students.
  • Contribute to the Level 3 EPQ programme, acting as a mentor and supporting with course management.
  • To support in the academic development of students through:
  • Work with the Sixth Form team in order to assess individual needs of targeted students.
  • Support the development and implementation of individual action plans for targeted students and provide feedback to the staff and students about the progress and achievement of these students.
  • To prepare support sessions, including effective resources.
  • Use assessment data to track progress and identify emerging patterns of underachievement as part of the Sixth Form team. Liaise with the Director of Sixth Form and implement appropriate actions, including, where appropriate, feeding back to parents.
  • Support identified students with SEND, in particular regarding provision of access arrangements.
  • Monitor the attendance of students for intervention in the Sixth Form areas and maintain accurate registers.
  • Supervise independent study periods.
  • Assist in ensuring the highest standards of behaviour, conduct and uniform of the Sixth Form students.
  • Use knowledge of the range of activities, courses, opportunities and organisations available to provide extra support for students including but not limited to:
  • Assisting with the advertising of access to higher education schemes such as Access to Leeds and York Access Scheme.
  • Support programmes offering academic opportunities. For example, the realising opportunities programme and the Brilliant Club.
  • Support with the development of Societies, and of Sixth Form student leaders to support main school extracurricular opportunities.
  • Delivery and development of the Group Tutorial programme for year 12 students:
  • Delivery of Group Tutorial sessions
  • Assist in the development of content for the Group Tutorial sessions and the dissemination of this to other staff delivering the sessions
  • Collate feedback from staff and students relating to the sessions in order that they further develop
  • Fulfil the role of a Form Tutor in line with the expectations of the Academy.
  • Support in the administration and delivery of Sixth Form assessment weeks.
  • Assist in organising Sixth Form celebration events.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.

General Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, training and briefings as appropriate
  • Be aware of, and comply with all Academy policies and procedures, in particular those relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
