THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to work for our heavy engineering client.

You will form a close nit team and you will work across electrical projects, often to the value of £1M-£3M.

The role is based in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.

You will have proven experience running capital projects having knowledge of design, negotiations, approval processes, managing budgets, generating quotes, as well as selecting vendors, etc.

In the role you are not a designer, but you will have full responsibilityof the project lifecycle from inception, through to final project installation and commissioning.


THE ROLE

Reporting into the Project Engineering Manager it will be the role of the Project Engineer to specify and manage both CAPEX and OPEX projects to suit the needs of the business, and will support the maintenance, manufacturing, quality and other departments asrequired.

The Project Engineer will help support the electrical side of the repair and maintenance of the company's equipment on site providing first line support for breakdowns, carrying out fault finding and repairs.

The Project Engineer will ensure that plant operates effectively and carry our planned servicing, inspection and installation work when required.

You will be required to supervise subcontractors to ensure that they meet agreed contractual and safety requirements.

As part of the plant operations team the Project Engineer you will work to increase productivity and profitability within the manufacturing operation and ensuring effective asset utilisation.

They will be required to support the organisation in identifyingprojects, financed either by capital expenditure (CAPEX) or operational expenditure (OPEX), and the writing of technical specifications as required.

Responsible for dealing quickly and effectively with electrical, instrumentation and control problems and breakdowns across the plant.

Provide technical support to all other departments to ensure the production plant operates effectively and carry out planned servicing, inspection and installation work when required.

To undertake preventative maintenance and safety checks on a regular basis, including undertaking risk assessments.

To be effective in fault finding, including good communications with the maintenance team to help identify quickly and effectively the root cause.

To be responsible for authorising and carrying out of HV switching
To be responsible for HV plant servicing, adherence to planned preventative maintenance schedules, testing and repair work as required.

Provide the Project Engineering Manager with root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions in response to plant downtime and reliability issues relating to electrical and/or engineering, when required.

To liaise effectively with external agencies, suppliers and manufacturers who may need to be brought in when problems are not within the scope of the role, this also involves knowing one's limitations and ensuring health and safety guidelines are met.

Support audits, plant checks and risk analysis including reports and action where necessary.
Work with purchasing department to develop and improve supplier and subcontractor relationships.
Project Management and Capital Investment Responsibilities

Health and Safety and the Environment - Conduct and train others in Risk Assessments and Point of Work Assessments (Dynamic).

Progress actions relating to SHE, accidents, incidents, or any other required projects / activities. Control & Management of the Health& Safety activity of contractors carrying out site projects.

Continuous improvement - Support and facilitate quality, lean and continuous improvement projects and activities including 5S, Visual Management and P.M.

& T.P.M. activities ensuring displayed information is up to date and current

THE PERSON
Electrical Engineering qualification. (HNC or equivalent).
PLC knowledge and Control experience.
Ability to use own initiative to fault find manufacturing equipment faults.
Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative.
Flexibility with working hours is a necessity.
Experience of preparing contract documentation and administration of contracted works.
Ability to produce clear, concise technical reports.
Ability to establish good working relationships with clients and colleagues.

Ability to identify problems and come up with innovative, cost-effective solutions in any of the multi-functional aspects of engineering design work.

Persistent in their approach to problem solving and organisational skills.
Capacity to manage time and information effectively, ability to prioritise tasks in line with business strategy.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt language as appropriate to the situation be open, and non-defensive.
Capacity to take in other perspectives, to listen, understand and provide constructive feedback after considering all feasible possibilities.
