Purpose of the role


The UK Telecoms Innovation Network (UKTIN) is an ambitious £10 million venture from the UK Department of Science Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to set up and deliver a body which will act as a national and international 'front door' to support innovative new companies and the wider telecoms ecosystem to access and navigate research and development (R&D) funding and facilities in the UK.


The network will have a focus on supporting long-term development of UK capabilities in the telecoms space through engaging industry and R&D and innovation (R&D&I) communities across the telecoms ecosystem, helping businesses to locate funding, facilities, skills, knowledge, to develop and sell products and solutions.

UKTIN is being delivered by a consortium led by Digital Catapult along with its partners the University of Bristol, Cambridge Wireless and West Midlands 5G.


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Advisor International Engagement to join the Digital Catapult to provide expert signposting support to international based supplier organisations, with an emphasis on assisting existing and new suppliers in navigating the UK's R&D&I ecosystem to help them succeed in growing their business in the UK, bringing innovations to market and collaborate with the thriving UK telecoms ecosystem.


Key responsibilities & expected deliverables

  • Lead the International Specialist Guidance service for UKTIN.
  • Triage international opportunities through the UKTIN portal and manage dialogues with suppliers, tracked through our CRM system.
  • Liaise with relevant officials both within the DSIT and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) as necessary to identify and approach key international players.
  • Provide expert proactive account management for identified target companies overseas, working with DBT.
  • Support the conceptualisation, consultation, awareness and sharing of relevant DSIT telecoms interventions, supporting cohorts of interested parties.
  • Business development support and matchmaking for new international suppliers
  • Work with the Specialist Supplier Guidance service team to provide signposting services and matchmaking for international companies looking to innovate in the UK.

Requirements:


  • Demonstrable knowledge of UK's telecoms ecosystem, such as public and private network operators, network and device equipment supply chains, testbeds and testing facilities
  • Experience liaising with procurement, commercial and engineering teams within telecoms and technology businesses, understanding their requirements and their specialist language
  • Understanding of operations, procurement and supply chain processes within telecoms and technology companies
  • Familiarity with key international players in the telecoms space and understanding of the biggest opportunities to innovate in the UK.
  • Familiarity with the UK innovation ecosystem and an appreciation of the complexities of multiorganisation collaborative projects would be welcome
  • Excellent communicator, able to influence multiple stakeholders within and outside Digital Catapult, able to interact with anyone, to CxO level, with an ability to bridge the gap between technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
