We are seeking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic individual looking for a part time Kitchen Assistant role within our Facilities and Estates Team,


You will be working an average of 21 hours per week on a 6-week rota (3 on/3 off) including weekends.

Some of our ward meals are delivered using a powered vehicle therefore holding a full UK driving licence for a manual vehicle would be beneficial however not essential.


To support the Food Services team in meeting the requirements of Service Users, staff and visitors resulting in the delivery of the highest standards of food safety through efficient and effective food storage, preparation, production and service complying with Food Safety and Hygiene legislation.

  • Clearing and cleaning of dining facilities.
  • Cleaning of all food service areas, including equipment, to meet agreed standards.
  • Washing of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
  • Ensure effective waste management.
  • Preparation, delivery and service of hospitality.
  • Maintaining the general tidiness and organisation of food service areas.
  • Observing and enforcing all food hygiene policies, procedures and
documentation.

  • Preparation of salads, sandwiches and other cold dishes.
  • Basic preparation of food items for patients and staff whilst adhering to recipes and methods.
  • Correct and economical use of equipment and materials to meet Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Control of stock and storage of goods complying with Food Safety Legislation
  • Receipt, storage and issue of all goods in compliance with protocols and
- procedures ensuring quality and quantity and correct storage.

  • Ensuring all storage areas, chilled, frozen and ambient are maintained to agreed standards.
  • Support the duty Supervisor in the effective and efficient control and
monitoring of stock levels supporting the department to effectively
minimise waste.

  • Weighing of ingredients following agreed protocols.
  • Ensuring vending machines are cleaned, stocked and maintained daily to ensure compliance with local protocols.
  • Compliance with cash handling procedures to include vending and
Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS), reporting any discrepancies or
maintenance issues to the Duty Supervisor.

  • Daily Stock Counts including Batch items.
  • Assist with service of meals and beverages to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Commits to the Green Plan; considers sustainability as an underpinning requirement of all service activities


The Covid-19 vaccination remains the best line of defence against Covid-19 to protect individuals, colleagues, patients, and communities, and the Trust encourages staff to take up the offer of being fully vaccinated.

Please note all staff members who are working in healthcare premises, working with patients/service users and/or undertaking patient/service user visits will be required to take a twice weekly Lateral Flow Test, and to produce evidence of their negative test result on request.
