If you are a highly motivated and experienced practitioner we are looking for a floating band 6 Team Leader to cover the following specialities:
PLASTICS- including minor and major reconstructive surgery and hand hand trauma.

BREAST- Minor and major surgeries Including mastectomy and implantation of expanders.

ENT/OMF - Including dental work in adults and paediatrics under general anaesthesia, Parathyroid's and total thyroids along with tonsillectomies, Fess and general ENT surgery


The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational supervision of the department, within a specialised area of expertise; including budgetary awareness, clinical governance, staff development and training.

The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable for.

The post holder will be involved in the development of protocols/guidelines and any key development to ensure the service is the best it can be.

Working across Bedfordshire NHS Trust, the post holder is accountable for the provision, organisation, delivery and development of safe, high quality patient care within their specialty and sphere of responsibility and competency including "scrubbing and circulating" for all types of surgical cases working alongside the band 7 senior theatre practitioner.

  • Manage the preparation of the theatre suite for an operating theatre session with regards to staffing and skill mix, equipment and instruments availability and sustainability
  • To participate in the department's Internal Rotation and On Call system including weekends and bank holidays as required therefore ensuring the delivery of a 24hr service.
  • To establish and maintain communication that facilitates multidisciplinary working and coordination of effective patient care.
  • The post holder will also participate in the teaching and mentorship of learners and trainee Theatre Practitioners in the appropriate specialist area.
  • To provide support and skilled assistance to all staff members and contribute towards the maintenance of a safe and clean environment within the department.
  • Utilising the specialist perioperative care plan the post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient/client care packages within the sphere of responsibility and in all appropriate delivery areas within Bedford Trust
  • Participate in the planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and auditing of patient/client standards of care, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
  • To ensure policies, protocols and guidelines are adhered to and correctly implemented while proposing and facilitating any agreed changes to practice
  • To lead in the facilitation of the WHO Safety Surgery Checklist in Theatres, ensuring its smooth running and supporting staff in its use.
  • Works effectively as a team member showing respect for other members of the multidisciplinary team and their contributions to the overall objectives set
  • The post holder will act as a role model and provide support for other members of the multidisciplinary team in terms of innovation, leadership and ability
  • Competently carry out a range of specialist clinical duties according to professional training and departmental protocols and policies, demonstrating dexterity, accuracy and precision when assisting or carrying out invasive and noninvasive procedures across all specialities both elective and emergency working in theatres across Bedford Hospital NHS Trust
  • In keeping with the individual's normal working area, surgery, you should have extensive knowledge of appropriate instrumentation to enable anticipation of the relevant team's requirements and facilitation of proposed procedures
  • Demonstrates the ability to remain focused and prioritise while delivering high quality care during periods of intense activity related to changes in surroundings, circumstances or patient condition
