CSW is a human rights organisation specialising in freedom of religion or belief, and as Christians we stand with everyone facing injustice because of their religion or belief.


The Role


This is a rare opportunity to be at the front line of human rights research and advocacy, working for a specialist organisation with a long track record in promoting the right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB).


You will enhance CSW's presence and advocacy in Parliament and with relevant government departments, supporting the Advocacy department in achieving Parliamentary-related strategic objectives and maintaining a good working relationship with the Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

As required, you will also support the vital human rights research that underpins CSW's advocacy work.

You will be based in the Press and Public Affairs team.

You will work closely with your colleagues in the team and be expected to cover their roles as and when needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement CSW's parliamentary strategy in line with wider organisational strategy;
  • Communicate CSW's advocacy priorities to relevant advocacy targets in Parliament and proactively disseminate CSW information with relevant parliamentarians and allparty parliamentary groups;
  • Build and maintain relationships with FCDO officials and those in other relevant government departments;
  • Monitor political and legislative developments relevant to freedom of religion or belief in Parliament, and raise advocacy opportunities with colleagues;
  • Coordinate and assist in drafting briefings for parliamentarians ahead of debates, and briefings and speeches for colleagues ahead of relevant inquiries and/or other parliamentary mechanisms;
  • Proactively support the work of the APPG on International freedom of religion or belief and other relevant APPGs;
  • Support CSW's membership of the UK FoRB Forum by attending stakeholder and relevant working group meetings, and sharing relevant information with colleagues in the Advocacy Department;

About You


A committed Christian with a university degree and a strong commitment to human rights and justice, you will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to take the initiative and to work well under pressure.


Essential Criteria

  • At least one year's experience working for an MP or undertaking parliamentary advocacy
  • In depth knowledge of parliamentary systems and issues
  • An understanding of the structure and priorities of the FCDO
  • Experience of and interest in human rights research
  • Excellent research skills and attention to detail, to maintain high standards of accuracy in policy documents
  • Must have the right to reside and work in the United Kingdom.
