Bolton CAMHS is looking to recruit a Consultant Adolescent Psychiatrist in a role with its core CAMHS team. This is a replacement post.


Bolton CAMHS is preparing to enter a phase of radical transformation and are active participants within the Greater Manchester GM iThrive transformation initiative to develop mental health systems across the GM footprint that follow the iThrive model.

Bolton is fortunate in that it has a well-developed collaborative of voluntary sector providers of emotional and mental health support for children and young people, through Bolton Together.


The CAMH service is an integrated multi-professional, multidisciplinary service that can draw upon numerous therapeutic approaches to provide mental health care for the children and young people it sees, including CBT, EMDR, DBT, CAT, Systemic Family Therapy, along with the traditional disciplines of Psychiatry, Psychology and Mental Health Nursing, alongside allied professional disciplines.

The CAMH service is fortunate to have a Community Paediatrician working within the neuro-disability element of the service.


Bolton CAMHS is dedicated to the development of non-medical professionals and presently has a robust development pathway for NMPs and is proud to have supported the development of two NMPs in the last 18 months, with a third beginning the pathway, to join the present cohort of two well established independent prescribers.

Clinical role

  • Undertake assessments of referrals/ admissions to the service
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans in complex presentations.
  • Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations
  • Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
  • Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.
  • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
  • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.
Leadership role

  • Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality care
  • Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards
  • Engage with service transformation programmes including attendance at Consultant meetings for their service and directorate.
