Unit Role


The newly reformed 19 Light Brigade Headquarters is specifically designed to command and generate Army Reserve force elements for operations including UK resilience, training and other activity across the UK and overseas.

HQ 19 Light Brigade commands ten Army Reserve combat units spread across the UK and has varied outputs and activities that make it an interesting, fast paced and challenging environment for a Civil Servant to work in.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


Responsible to the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) for the personnel workforce management within the Brigade Headquarters and wider area of responsibility.

Managing all areas of Discipline (Disc) on behalf of the Commander Headquarters 19 Light Brigade.


Provide timely direction and professional advice to Headquarters 19 Light Brigade units on all aspects of Army personnel management, Disc matters, Service Complaints casework and any additional Pay and Allowances Casework and Complaints Cell (PACCC) submissions.


Person specification:


Personnel Key Responsibilities:
On behalf of 19 Bde handle, co-ordinate and update the Military staffing information using spreadsheets. This information will include all Regular, Fixed Term Reserve Soldier (FTRS) and Reserve personnel.

There will be regular monthly meetings to discuss staffing requirements. The effective and efficient running of these meetings will be on of your key responsibilities.

The Military Secretariat (MS) run the careers of regular soldiers and Officers within the Army. You will assist the 19 Brigade (19 BDE) MS Staff with similar tasks for our FTRS colleagues. You will also provide support to the MS team with Recruitment Appointments Boards when required

As and when required, you will provide support for Cadet Recruitment Boards undertaken by 19 Bde.


Provision of accurate and timely advice and guidance on all Military Personnel and Workforce matters to colleagues in 19 Bde.


You will need to build a strong working relationship with colleagues in a number of Army Units within your area of responsibility as well as other organisations including the Army Personnel Centre, Headquarters 1 (United Kingdom) Division (HQ 1 (UK) Div), Regional Command (RC), in order to resolve staffing matters as required.

You will have Line Manager responsibility for an Administrative Officer (AO) support officer.


Discipline Key Responsibilities:


You will need to build strong working relationships with a wide range of colleagues in a number of Army Units, as well as a range of other partners, to ensure that Discipline cases are accurately recorded, tracked and updated on the MOD's computerised personnel system (JPA).


As the policy lead for 19 Bde disciplinary matters, you will undertake assurance checks on all cases entered on JPA, ensuring that they are completed accurately and timeously.


Be responsible for and manage all formal complaints made by Service Personnel within the 19 Bde, providing advice and guidance to all those involved in the process.

Monitor and track all the Controlled Drug Testing (CDT) results from 19 Bde units, ensuring they are recorded accurately.

You will ensure that the operation of physical document security arrangements are carried out accurately and as per guidance.
