What you'll learn & achieve:

Emergo by UL's Human Factors Research & Design (HFR&D) team is a global Human Factors Engineering (HFE) consultancy with offices in Concord, MA; Chicago, IL; Utrecht, The Netherlands; Cambridge, United Kingdom; and Tokyo, Japan.

Emergo by UL's HFR&D staff consists of nearly 70 human factors research and design professionals with degrees in disciplines such as human factors, engineering, psychology, and design.

Note that Emergo by UL is the advisory services (consulting) division of UL (formerly Underwriters Laboratories), which has been a product safety innovator and leader since its founding in 1894.

As a member of the team, you will be:


  • Supporting usability testing, field research, individual interviews, and group interviews.
  • Assisting with the review of deliverables and ensuring that they meet quality standards.
  • Analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate client user interface designs.
  • Assisting with client presentations, deliverables and providing solutions to identified improvement areas.
  • Supporting documentation review and development, including but not limited to risk analyses, user profiles, task analyses, and Human Factors Engineering reports.
  • Supporting test planning and coordination, including activities, such as, developing test plans, preparing Investigational Review Board submissions, managing participant recruitment, and preparing testing environments for usability testing.
What makes you a great fit:


  • University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor's degree) in Human Factors Engineering or a related discipline, plus generally 12 years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate and present effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fastpaced, collaborative work environment.
