Job summary


Nexus PCN is currently recruiting for a highly motivated, emotionally intelligent and resilient Volunteer and Workplace Coordinator to support the team in coordinating placements for a variety of programmes from different providers.


Main duties of the job


This role will work closely with the Operations Manager and HR Lead, the placements are to be within specific teams across the PCN Network and this role is to be the main point of contact for both the person on placement and any appropriate external organisations.

The primary goal of the role is to rapidly expand our placements across Nexus PCN and to create close working and long-lasting links and partnerships with provider organisations whilst maintaining excellence as a training provider and ensuring feasibility for our Nexus teams and member practices.


There is also a responsibility to recruit, train and support the development of any volunteers across the PCN as required (for example during vaccination programmes) and maintain a database of volunteers using their information to match them into opportunities suiting their skills

About us


Nexus PCN is located in the centre of the vibrant city of Exeter in Devon and has a population of around 42,000.

There are 5 surgeries within the PCN, within close proximity of each other, with excellent inter-personal relations, a good support network and a history of collaborative working.

The practices are Mount Pleasant Health Centre, The Heavitree Practice, South Lawn Medical Practice, Isca Medical Practice and Hill Barton Surgery.

Our population is diverse, with varying levels of socio-economic status, young families, elderly patients and university students all of whom make providing care very interesting.


Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Take lead on expanding and supporting placement opportunities in Nexus PCN.
  • Lead in any recruitment of volunteers in line with recruitment procedures and policies.
  • Provide a full induction for volunteers/students/placements and provide support as and when needed.
  • Ensure that relevant training is provided to volunteers/placements and ensure students receive workplace exposure aligned to their study requirements and the PCN priorities.
  • Handle all communication both internally and externally and deal with learning and development queries.
  • Work with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and relevant training accreditors to adapt placement models to include primary care as a placement provider.
  • Support students through all aspects of their placement.
  • Ensure that records of all relevant checks are obtained before each placement.
  • Administer a database of all volunteers and students/placements and provide reports regularly.
  • Ensure compliance is met in line with regulations and due diligence done.
  • Support and grow Nexus volunteer pool as well as promoting Nexus PCN as an employer of choice.
  • Support the team in facilitating students or volunteer involvement in projects, meetings and other day to day activities as their placement or the PCN requires.
  • Coordinating training for volunteers/placements and coordinating rotas.
  • Ensure that students and volunteers adhere to organisational policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • A Level standard or equivalent

Desirable

  • Preferably have access to transport / have a driving license

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good IT skills.
  • Understand record keeping and confidentiality.
  • Able to preempt problems and prepare a contingency plan.
  • Administration and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work with mínimal supervision and interact with the team in a helpful and supportive manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and how it relates to volunteer involvement.

Desirable

  • Be able to work with mínimal supervision and interact with the team in a helpful and supportive manner.

Experience

Essential

  • Prior experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Recruitment, selection, and induction knowledge
  • People management exposure
  • Experience of working with volunteers and/or students

Desirable

  • Knowledge working on SystmOne or other GP clinical systems
  • Experience working in Primary Care / General Practice

Salary:
£11.00-£12.50 per hour
