Job Description:


The Head of L&P (FTC) will join the Global Support (Head Office and Shared Services) division of a FTSE business.

They will act as a strategic partner to the division, head up a team of two direct reports, and also support group-wide projects as appropriate.

This person will take a leading role in delivering people and organisation related programmes, proactively identifying opportunities to support the achievement of business objectives.

The role is cover until end of July 2023 for the previous Head of L&P who is currently on secondment within the HR team.


This senior role within the Learning and Performance team will be influential in defining learning needs with the business, and driving people development and talent programmes and campaigns.

Working with the L&P Partners (direct reports), the role will include, but not be limited to:


  • Team Management
  • Business Partnership and Stakeholder Management
  • Creation and Implementation of Learning initiatives
  • Talent and Performance Management
  • OD, Change, Culture and Communication
  • Group initiatives partnership with other divisions and Heads of L&P


The role requires strong collaboration with the L&P Community, HR and other professional teams as well as the broader business leadership to bring the best of collective expertise.

The role reports to the Group Head of Learning and Performance and sits within the Global Support division.

The role is based in London but will have a balanced approach to office and remote working.


Key Responsibilities
The Head of L&P is expected to assume the following key responsibilities plus any other reasonable duties as required:

Team Management
Management of one L&P Manager/Partner within the GS L&P team, including allocation of objectives and coaching support.


Business Partnership and Stakeholder Management:


  • Builds strategic partnerships with business leadership and functional teams, defining learning and performance needs and driving creation and rollout of appropriate programmes.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor on all strategic Learning related topics, with a strong focus on the promotion of good Learning practice and global consistency

Project Management:


  • Plans and manages projects including stakeholder management, task management, risk mitigation, communications, deadline management, progress updates etc. to implement specific solutions and initiatives, achieving specific business objectives.
  • Ensures all aspects essential for project success are being managed effectively, including HR, technology, communications and engagement etc.

Learning & Training

  • Ensures f2f learning interventions (training, workshops etc.) are created and implemented with appropriate collateral to ensure effective delivery and maximise outcomes e.g. management, team and personal effectiveness development
  • Encouraging selfdirected learning through learning pathways and functional support across different teams,
  • Ensures learning and performance support resources such toolkits, guidelines, videos and curated learning paths are curated to high standards
  • Ensures workshops, training etc. are being facilitated effectively
  • Identifies internal Subject-MatterExperts and manages collaborative efforts to leverage and develop capability within the business
  • Supporting wellbeing and D&I initiatives,

Talent & Performance Management:


  • Leads on the integration of competency models, waysofworking, assessment of capabilities and behaviours, and creation of learning paths to ensure that new teams and organisational models have necessary capabilities to be successful.
  • Designs training and appropriate collateral to support the rollout of team OKRs and the ongoing practice of individual performance management across the business.

OD, Culture, Change and Communications:


  • Is an agent for change and innovation, championing and driving new ideas and ways of working in line with key business priorities.
  • Works in partnership with HR to identify people impacts of activities covering engagement, wellbeing, D&I, performance, talent etc. and to optimise positive outcomes
  • Manages stakeholders effectively to ensure high levels of engagement, ensuring effective execution of change and initiatives.
