Rotherham Council's Children's Services have continued from strength to strength, most recently being deemed "Good" by.


The Residential Emergency Response Practitioner will provide high quality care and interventions to children and young people in a variety of settings including residential homes, emergency accommodation, family home and foster placements.


As part of our emergency response team, this role will work across services, often supporting children in crisis and reporting into the Children's Home Registered Manager.


This post holder will play an active role which contributes to the protection, safeguarding and promotion of the education, health and well-being of Rotherham's children and young people.


As part of this role, you will:

  • To promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each child or young person. To provide care to children and young people in respect of meeting their physical, emotional and social needs.
  • To key work individual children and young people, building effective relationships, being a positive role model and providing consistency of support.
  • To promote advocacy, voice and Influence opportunities, which will ensure that children and young people participate in the decision making that affect them and their voices influence the decisions that develop, shape and improve practices within their home.
  • Engage in the day to day running of the home to include leading and coordinating shifts, planning and participating in activities, provision of meals, personal and intimate care, administration of medication in line with the council's policy and completing administrative tasks as required including safe handling of cash.
  • Complete and peer audit relevant records and reports using both written and electronic communication

These will include:
Care Plans, Positive Behaviour Plans, Risk Assessments and Daily Recordings relating to the child and home.

  • To provide and promote a safe, stimulating and nurturing physical environment, contributing to Health and Safety Standards and the maintenance and security of the building.
  • Work independently as part of a specialist team managing a caseload undertaking assessment of need, creating needs led plans to deliver evidence based interventions and undertake reviews with consideration for budgetary constraints and in accordance with legislation and council policies.
  • Carry out the role of key worker for individual service users, providing assistance and guidance in areas of personal care, daily living, health, social integration and emotional support balancing complex and conflicting problems.
  • Produce and maintain up to date accurate records to an appropriate standard as required by policy and good practice by using appropriate IT equipment and other methods.
  • Develop strong working relationships with services, agencies and providers to contribute to effective multiagency working and ensure that nondelivery by agencies is challenged appropriately.

About you


You will hold a Level 5/6 Diploma in Residential Child Care or the equivalent knowledge evidenced by your working experience.


You'll be a committed member of the team, seeking to inspire and support some of our most complex young people.

As part of the residential team you will be required to work evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts as needed.

You must be able to travel to various locations throughout the Borough.
