This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Manager to join our friendly and dynamic Integrated Local Services QIPS Team.


  • We are looking for a confident, committed and caring individual, with exceptional skills and a desire to learn new skills.
  • The role supports effective clinical governance across the Integrated Local Services (ILS) Directorate including clinical audit, quality improvement, patient experience including compliments and PALS issues, incident reporting, Duty of Candour, standard operating procedures, clinical guidelines, NICE Guidance, action plan evidence and quality alert correspondence, maintaining accurate and up to date records.
  • You must have excellent communication and IT skills, and have a positive and solution focused attitude.
  • It is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills across all aspects of clinical governance including clinical effectiveness, patient safety, complaints and improvement, and develop working relationships across all our services.
  • If successful, you will be working directly with the Senior QIPS and QIPs Managers, and liaising with the Directorate Management Team, Clinical Leads and services.
The post holder will work across all aspects of clinical governance as well as providing secretarial support with Directorate-level Committees and Groups, with specific responsibilities in relation to:

  • Assuring that incidents are reported and investigated and that the learning from all types of incident investigation is shared across the directorate and results in sustained change and improvement to patient care.
  • Providing advice and guidance to all services across Integrated Local Services on external accreditation requirements, the update and review of clinical guidelines, standard operating procedures and NICE guidance, and the quality alert process
  • Managing systems for the communication of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Incident information across the directorate
  • Developing and managing systems for the tracking of incident investigations, Duty of Candour cases, guidelines, SOPs, NICE guidelines and improvement projects, and produce exception reports for the Senior Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Manager


The post holder is required to have excellent communication and analytical skills to deal with the day-to-day challenges of maintaining an efficient and effective Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Service supporting clinical and non-clinical teams.

Main responsibilities:


  • Provide support, and specialist advice that is in line with national and Trust guidance, on all areas of governance work, including clinical audit, quality improvement, patient experience including compliments and PALS issues, incident reporting, Duty of Candour, standard operating procedures, clinical guidelines, NICE Guidance, action plan evidence and quality alert correspondence, maintaining accurate and up to date records.
  • Provide advice and support to servicelevel management teams on responsibilities in relation to external accreditation, e.g. Care Quality Commission (CQC).
  • Promote the reporting of all patient safety incidents, emphasising a proactive culture of openness and sharing of learning.
  • Extract, analyse and report on all open and overdue incidents within the Directorate and liaise with servicelevel management teams to ensure review and completion within a timely manner in line with local procedures.
