We're looking for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly service, Kerwin Court.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals who will strive to deliver the best possible service for our service users.

The salary range for this post is £35,392 -£42,618 DOE per annum plus £1 per hour location allowance.

The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) is a leading provider for Brain Injury Rehabilitation. It is part of the nationally recognised Disabilities Trust; a leading charity for specialist support for people with disabilities.

BIRT is a neuropsychologically led, specialist assessment and rehabilitation service for people with disabilities resulting from brain injury. This includes traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke and other forms of acquired brain injury (ABI). We combine the best of BIRT with new developments nationally and internationally.


We employ over 1,000 clinical and support staff, including psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, nurses and rehabilitation support workers across our various national centres.


BIRT's clinical expertise, outstanding facilities and dedication to rehabilitation & care mean service users are able to develop a recovery plan that suits their exact needs.

We believe that it is never too late to benefit from rehabilitation. BIRT staff work to ensure that people using their services are supported to regain maximum independence.


The Service
Kerwin Court delivers specialist neurobehavioural rehabilitation to adults with acquired brain injury. Set in attractive landscaped gardens, Kerwin Court has a bright, modern and spacious environment superbly equipped for neurobehavioural rehabilitation. This includes, physiotherapy gyms, occupational therapy kitchens, a games room, and a large garden with allotment, amongst other amenities. There are 16 ensuit rooms, two flats and five bungalows to support service users increasing their independence.


The clinical team is led by a Consultant Neuropsychologist and comprises of clinical neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapist, a music therapist, vocational and recreational coordinator and therapy assistants.

The clinical work in supported by a team of specialist rehabilitation support workers and management team.

The service provides specialist rehabilitation based upon a psychology model for people to gain their independence. The service users have a range of cognitive, physical and/or emotional symptoms following a severe brain injury.

As a BIRT Specialist/Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be part of an exciting and pioneering team with fantastic opportunities


You will:

  • Work as autonomous speech and language therapist within your multidisciplinary team
  • Assess how a person's communication impacts on their day to day life and provide intervention as appropriate.
  • Work with the person and their social network to problem solve and overcome barriers.
  • Assess communication and provide a management plan and rehabilitation (as appropriate) seeking specialist assessments as required
  • Provide training to staff and our service users social network
  • Be integral to service and organisational development.
