Overview / Responsibilities:


Wood is recruiting for Operations Technical Specialists experienced in using and developing operations documentation, including Operating Procedures and Operating Manuals for its UK team, in anticipation of a number of project awards.

This is a hybrid role (remote / office working) reporting to offices in Aberdeen, Hull or Teesside.


We are looking for individuals who have an aptitude for digital systems, who can be part of the Wood Digital Operations team, and move the development of Operating Procedures and Manuals to the next level in interactive and automated delivery.


Our Operations Technical Specialists produce documentation for a wide range of clients across many industries including oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, energy, pharmaceutical, renewables and utilities.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a range of technical operations documentation, including Operating Procedures and Operating Manuals, in line with project specific requirements.
  • Liaise with clients on technical clarifications in relation to operations projects work scopes
  • Under the guidance of the Lead Operations Technical Specialist, support the required technical review of deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Provide guidance and advice to peers and direct reports on Production and Technical issues
  • Ensure all deliverables are met within the project allocated timeline and development targets
  • Attend client technical meetings (as required)
  • Use electronic document / information management systems
  • Support the Lead Operations Technical Specialist in the provision of data for project progress reports
  • Work alongside other internal teams and departments to ensure project delivery

Skills / Qualifications:

  • ONC / NVQ or equivalent in an appropriate technical discipline
  • Control Room experience desired but not essential

Skills & Competences:

  • Understanding of engineering and technical source documentation (P&IDs, Data Sheets, Cause & Effects, Control Philosophies etc.)
  • Experience of previous technical authoring activites is advantageous although not essential
  • Experience of digitalisation of documentation and associated requirements is an advantage
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Highly numerate
  • Logical and critical thinker
  • Engineering science / wide range of engineering knowledge
  • Excellent standard of English, particularly spelling and grammar
  • Understands and can use 'Technical English'
  • Ability to communicate effectively with direct reports; assess situations and resolve potential problem areas. Good communications skills including client focussed.
