The Sheffield Health and Social Care Dietetic Team have an exciting opportunity to offer a 6 month secondment into out Dietetic Assistant post to cover parental leave.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our small and friendly dietetic team.


The role suits someone with experience and/or knowledge of clinical nutrition as well as a desire to improve the nutrition of our service users You would undertake a wide range of tasks including supporting dietitians to provide tailored nutritional advice to service users across the Trust: Dementia services, Acute inpatient adult wards, Rehabilitation base, Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment service and Forensic services.

This could be on a 1:1 basis as well as group settings.

You would also be involved in developing training resources/videos/webinars, day-to-day administration support and problem-solving to improve dept processes.

We are a small but friendly team of 3 dietitians ( full and part -time).

We work across all the in-patient areas of the Trust -Dementia services, Acute inpatient adult wards, Rehabilitation base, Learning Disability Assessment, Treatment service and Forensic services and the Eating Disorders Service.


The Assistant is responsible for working independently under the guidance of a Dietitian, to address the nutritional needs of service users.


The Assistant will develop competencies to carry out work that will support service users to eat well under the guidance of the clinical Dietitian.

The assistant will plan and deliver planned training programmes to support other teams within the service as required e.g. MUST training.

The Assistant may work in a variety of locations as determined with their Line Manager.


Other duties include:


To support the Dietitian to assess the nutritional status of individuals and groups through collection of anthropometric measurements, selected biochemical, haematological and clinical chemistry test results.


To plan and deliver training and facilitate group-work for service users, carers, and other health care professionals under the guidance of the Dietitian e.g.

MUST training, cook & eat sessions

Formulate appropriate and practical dietary advice for individuals and groups under the guidance of the Dietitian

To use a nutritional analysis programme and Excel to analyse individual recipes and menus under the guidance of the Dietitian

  • To support the Dietitian to work with individual service users or groups of service users using a range of approaches.
  • To support the Dietitian to assess the nutritional status of individuals and groups through collection of anthropometric measurements, selected biochemical, haematological and clinical chemistry test results.
  • Gather appropriate information regarding medical, social, psychological, personal, cultural and economic factors
  • Formulate appropriate and practical dietary advice for individuals and groups under the guidance of the Dietitian
  • To support services users to meet their nutritional care plan and liaise with other health professionals to support this
  • Document information on insight within dietetic standard and legislation.
  • To support the Dietitian to develop accessible information & other supportive materials/ resources for carers, families, other professionals
  • To work independently or with other registered Health Care Professionals to address the nutritional needs of service users under the guidance of the Dietitian
  • To organise and participate in Dietetic Team meetings. To take part in discussions on therapy service and policy development and comment on proposals
  • To form professional relationships with clients, who often exhibit challenging behaviour and communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture
