An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Maintenance Engineer at RNIB's production site at Gateshead.


At RNIB Gateshead, we are responsible for the production of braille, audio and large print using a variety of equipment including braille embossers and bagging machines.


What you'll be doing:


The Operational Support team is here to provide support to a range of manufacturing and production teams, helping to ensure accessible documents can be produced in efficient time-periods.

Based mainly in Gateshead, but occasionally across other RNIB sites throughout the UK, your main role within the Operational Support team will be to aid the Manufacturing Engineers with the proactive and reactive maintenance of production machinery, you will:

  • Develop fault finding, diagnosis and repair action skills on production machinery
  • Learn how to maintain production machinery both on a reactive and proactive basis
  • Analyse machine data and recommend improvements
  • Help in the modification and testing of new and existing production systems
  • Learn about manufacturing for accessibility

You will also be required to attend college on one day per week to study towards and attain an applicable level 3 engineering qualification (day to be confirmed).

We're particulary keen to hear how you meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE Grade 9 or equivalent including Maths, English and Science.
  • Willingness and ability to attend college to study for 3 year Engineering apprenticeship.
  • Interest in mechanics and electronics, including repair of industrial equipment including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
