The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a programme manager to lead and develop our education community services.

The official title of this role is Programme Manager, Education Communities.

In this role you will lead and develop the team (3-4 direct reports) that runs our education community services, with responsibility for a £100k budget.

Working closely with theleads of other programmes, you will ensure our services are engaging and connect teachers to support that meets their requirements.

You will help to ensure that the programmes evolve to meet emerging needs of various customer groups, are of high quality andvalue, acting as their champion with internal and external stakeholders.

You will lead and develop the team that runs our education community services.

The team is responsible for services including:

  • Teach Chemistry, our service for secondary teachers, and programmes that contribute to this service, including the UK Chemistry Olympiad.
  • Our services for primary teachers, including through Steps into Science.
  • Supporting the RSC Membership team in providing highquality support to RSC members in education.
  • Customer service support for our education programmes through shared inboxes.

We are looking for:


  • Good working knowledge of STEM education and challenges facing teachers and learners in UK and Ireland, supported by a degree in the chemical sciences or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of developing and successfully implementing services for educators, including customer research, proposition development, technical scoping, CRM systems and supporting the provision of highquality customer service.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work, to meet deadlines, and to support allocation of work within a team of employees and suppliers.
  • Experience of managing people and coordinating workload, either through projects or line management and evaluating the effectiveness or impact of a programme.
  • Experience of building and maintaining networks, including with partner organisations, grant holders or volunteers, with the ability to influence and negotiate within and without an organisation.
  • Experience of managing grants or competitions.
  • Experience of monitoring budgets and contributing to budget planning.


As an organisation we are embracing hybrid working, and homeworking/remote working within the UK could be considered for this role.

Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Cambridge and London offices as neededfor their role.

This role will require some travel and weekend and non-core working hours and an Enhanced DBS with children's barred list check.
