  • Annualised hours means that while your monthly pay will remain unchanged, your hours may vary per week, and by season, and will be in agreement with the line manager.

What will I be doing?

We're working to improve the lives of children in Somerset - and you'll be a key part of that.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Supervise, demonstrate, and instruct groups in a wide variety of outdoor activities both on and off site.
  • Deliver agreed programmes in the absence of the Centre Manager, resolve any routine problems, liaise with customers and centre staff, deputising for the Centre Manager as required
- overseeing the smooth running of the centre.

  • Ensure facilities are fit for purpose, safe, clean and tidy and take appropriate actions to identify problems and remedying issues.
  • Assist the Centre Manager in the design and delivery of a planned programme or training to meet the service needs.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

But it will really help if you have:

  • 2 or more of the following: ML/HML, SPA/RCI, LCLA, Archery/Range Qualification, UKCC L Three or more years Instructing in a variety of Outdoor settings and evidence of training delivery.
  • Experience of leading outdoor and adventurous activities.
  • Experience of training and developing peers.

Anything else I should know?
The salary for the role is Grade 13, ranging from £21,968 to £24,054 per annum

The role will involve working some evenings, occasional overnights and weekends, across all of our centres.


From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council.

It's an exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.
