Job Summary:


  • The main purpose of the post is to provide administrative, and customer focussed support within a Revenues Team to assist towards the Revenues Service meeting its performance targets and aspirations.
  • The Officers will be expected to deliver a professional, customer focussed and highquality service whilst maximising revenue and reducing arrears through the administration, collection and recovery of Council Tax.
  • The role would involve dealing directly with the public, you will be able to answer end to end (billing to recovery) written correspondence accurately and proactively liaise with taxpayers on the telephone where necessary. Your role will be varied as whilst you will predominantly be dealing with customer correspondence, the nature of the arrears maximisation work means you will must have the ability to deal with all stages of billing and collection, through written correspondence and your excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • To be decisive and confident in your decision making and have a full awareness of the processes and legislation relating to Council Tax. You will act as a contact person for some customers requiring you to build ongoing relationships, focussing on their needs and collating information necessary to ensure our records are updated accurately and in a timely fashion e.g., high value and risk debtors.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:


  • To accurately maintain and update council tax account records to ensure prompt billing and collection of council tax using the council's computer system
  • To maintain a knowledge and awareness of all aspects of Local Taxation legislation and regulations
  • To assist in the effective and efficient collection of outstanding council tax due to the council
  • To propose and check refunds of overpaid council tax for accounts in credit
  • To deal with customer enquiries by telephone and letter in accordance with Service standards
  • To provide a high level of customer service at all times
  • To negotiate and monitor arrangements within the guidelines set in the Council's collection policy
  • To liaise with various external agencies and organisations and relevant officers or agents of the Council in respect all council tax liability matters
  • To communicate with third parties such as employers, DWP, CAB in relation to billing and collection of council tax as appropriate.
    Essential Experience Required:
  • experience of working in a customer focussed environment is essential
  • Experience of working from home on a regular basis, with the requirement to attend your primary work base as and when is required

Essential Qualifications Required:


  • A relevant professional qualification of IRRV Level 3 certificate is desirable.

Working Hours: 37 Hours per week

  • The role is Hybrid.
