Here at Optima we are working with a worldwide leading automotive testing, inspection and certification company based in Towcester.


Within the role of
EMC Test Engineer you will be offering and maintaining the highest possible levels of service within the bounds of the contract agreed between our client's commercial department and the customer.


This should include but not be limited to;

  • To implement the documentation standards laid down in the company quality manual and
related procedures to ensure continuing compliance with the requirements of our
accreditations.

  • To ensure that the companies interests are upheld throughout the test program.
  • To be responsible for the security of the test site and the facility as a whole

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out testing on customer equipment against a range of specifications associated with testing to the accredited standard. To also carry out prescan testing to nonaccredited standards for customers.
  • Perform non accredited testing to a range of specifications associated with EMC immunity of customer equipment.
  • To ensure that the file signoff for approval to proceed with testing is made prior to undertaking test liaise with appropriate senior engineer or laboratory manager.
  • To set up test systems and arrangements for EMC work.
  • To assist with the general laboratory duties associated with all test disciplines.
  • Satisfy oneself that the EUT is adequately defined prior to commencing any testing referring to the Quality Manual where necessary.
  • To carry out tests according to the clients Technical Procedures and generally in accordance with the quality manual required by ISO17025 and audited by UKAS.
  • Report any inconsistencies in any documents or procedures to senior staff or commercial/sales department.
  • To monitor correct operation of test equipment and cables and report failures and breakages to the Laboratory Manager.
  • To verify calibrations of test equipment used and accurately record what test equipment has been used on the results sheet together with photographic evidence.
  • To record test results in the test log according to the clients procedures, fill out a task sheet for each test, and provide customers with progress reports according to individual commercial agreements.
  • To work in a diligent manner commensurate with the operation of a professional test establishment.
  • To ensure test plans are completed within the timescales quoted, to report to thecommercial/sales department as soon as possible if you suspect this may not be possible.
  • To complete all worksheets up to date at the end of each working day.
  • As directed prepare EMC test reports on a word processor for customer product compliance testing and make copies.

Qualifications/skills:


  • The preferred qualifications for this position are a HND/HNC in Electronic Engineering orequivalent. Alternatively, relevant experience of EMC testing will be considered.
  • A period of industrial training of 1 year in a related field of electronics is desirable but newly qualified graduates shall be given training until they are competent at performing tests unsupervised.
  • Intensive training is provided in the working environment at 3C Test until this level of competence is demonstrated.
  • A good telephone manner is required with a clear and precise command of the English language preferably with some experience of customer contact.
  • The ability to accurately express test results in a written report is essential.
  • Soldering skills for electrical and electronic components is desirable with experience of discrete and SMT components.
  • Some knowledge of the operation of PCs and associated software (especially Word processors and
  • Windows) is desirable.
