Description

RESIDENT TUTOR
From September 2023

The Post

We have a vacancy for a Resident Tutor in our Arundale Boarding House. It would be an ideal position for
those interested in developing their career in Pastoral Care and/or Boarding. A willingness to contribute
to the wider life of this happy and successful boarding School is essential.

The Tutor will receive free board and lodging throughout the term and all meals during term time. The
one bedroom flat allocated is more suitable for a single person, or potentially a couple. Please note that

Boarding is an integral part of our School and this small, but thriving, boarding community needs a
Resident Tutor with energy, creativity, calmness and stamina in an ever changing role. Working
alongside seasoned boarding staff, it is a wonderful opportunity to develop your understanding of the
complex nature of boarding and also get to know our pupils in a new and exciting way.

Boarding

In our recent ISI inspection, we received an Excellence rating for our Boarding and Pastoral Care
(amongst others) and boarding was highlighted as a particular strength and we are very proud of our
boarding provision.

We have one main boarding house at

St Christopher:
Arundale, run by Houseparents. The Arundale
Boarding House is split into two areas: Old House and Cloisters.

We currently have 35 boarders and most of these are weekly boarders (ie. Sunday night/Monday morning
to Friday afternoon), but we do have some full boarders who stay with us at weekends during term-time
and some occasional boarders (ie. they board once a week).

Boarding Duties

The Resident Tutor will work two evenings and two mornings and one full weekend day (one in three
weekends), attend boarding meetings, provide cover plus supervision of extra-curricular boarding
activities (eg. swimming).

The Resident Tutor will be expected to be resident overnight throughout the Term. All resident staff are
expected to return to the boarding house the day before the pre-term staff meeting (INSET day) and to
stay for one day after the end of Term to assist with clearing up.

The Resident Tutor will be part of a team responsible for the safety, wellbeing, safeguarding of our
boarding community. The role is varied but goes beyond supervision and putting pupils to bed at night.

Bespoke training on the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Boarding and other CPD will be part and
parcel of the role and it is expected you will be involved in all the extra events that we hold including
induction, Summer BBQ, Christmas events and trips out.

The role will also require you to organise and coordinate activities for the boarders throughout the year
and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure compliance and smooth running.

The School

Founded in 1915, St Christopher School is an atypical independent day and boarding school for girls and
boys aged 3-18. We have 540 pupils and 74 teachers.

We have no school uniform and everyone is called by their first name. We have no religious affiliation
and welcome students and staff of all faiths and none.

Our Ethos
We treat our young people as individuals and aim for them to develop competence and resourcefulness,
social conscience and moral courage, the capacity for friendship and a true zest for life.
