About the role:

The Editorial Assistant is responsible for supporting senior editorial staff throughout the publishing process, from planning to production stages.

In this role, you will collaborate with staff across the business, including professionals involved in tuition delivery, creative output, copywriting, and print production.


The role is multifaceted, and is crucial to timely and accurate delivery of outputs, including proofreading and editing documents, serving as a liaison for writers and tutors, handling rights and permissions tasks and coordinating production activities.

Editorial assistants may also perform administrative office tasks, such as filing documents, managing calendars, answering phone calls and recording expense reports.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Publishing Business/Product Development
  • Developing ideas for new products/courses & improvements to old products/courses.
  • Design & implementation of these new products/courses.
  • Liaising with external contractors to meet deliverables.
  • Owning workflows, and ensuring that they are efficient and effective, liaising across teams to ensure that this is the case.
  • Editorial
  • Proofreading and editing media pre
- and post-production to ensure that errors are minimised and quality standards upheld.

  • Ensuring that media is presented to specification, and that booklet style is consistent.
  • Ensuring that media is designed in accordance with the output production workflow.
  • Collating errors and actioning corrections.
  • Liaising across the company to ensure that publishing outputs align with the wider company goals and requirements.
  • Print Production
  • Supporting with the preparation of resources for print, including:
  • Resource preparation and collation
  • Preparing order totals
  • Liaison with external companies to order and accurately deliver print media.
  • Overseeing internal print production
  • Printing resources, where necessary
  • Making orders and ensuring that printing staff are producing resources needed.
  • Quality control, both of the printed outputs, and of the processes of providing them.
  • Minimising waste ensuring that over production is kept mínimal.
  • Calendar Management
  • Ensuring that key deadlines are shared and understood by the internal and wider team.
  • Sending reminders and chasing relevant parties to make sure deadlines are met.
  • Administrative Tasks
  • Monitoring of classes
  • Adhoc front of house duties, as required.
  • Cataloguing and Archiving Digital & Physical backcatalogue.

KPIs:

- _Prompt issue resolution:_

  • 1st response in 1 hour.
  • Resolved within 24hrs.
- _ Number of resource/quality control issues reduced:_

  • For newly outputted resources reduced to 0.
  • For old resources <4/month.
  • Timely delivery of correct number of resources to correct location:
  • All classes have enough resources to go ahead.
  • All students taking online special course have resources a week in advance of course.
  • 0/month online classes have portal upload errors.
- <15% print wastage

  • 2 new projects completed for publishing/wider team/month.

Who we're looking for:


Key to the Publishing Team's delivery across its outputs, this person needs strong communication skills, impeccable attention to detail and flair for design, an ability to thrive under time pressure, and a technical understanding of the print production process.


Our Editorial Assistants have a passion for education and learning, and a desire for personal impact in this field, driving them to develop processes and increment improvements for products independently and continuously.


  • Demonstrable knowledge of and experience using design software tools such as Adobe Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • An understanding of the UK primary and/or secondary curricula in English, Maths and/or Science.
  • A proven track record of successful independent problem identification and resolution.
  • Experience teaching.
  • Experience in print production.
  • A relevant degree.
  • A background in STEM.
