Pushing Change

The Charity
Pushing Change is an innovative and busy peer-led community based in
Portsmouth. Portsmouth is a vibrant university city with a rich maritime history on the
South Coast, enjoying excellent transport links to the rest of the country.


Pushing Change is part of the commissioned substance misuse partnership, and we have recently been independently commissioned to run the peer mentor training and peer support service within the city.


We presently run out of two sites, 67 Kingston Road and the Central Library and have an expanding outreach programme across the city.

We run weekly peer-led and designed groups and Smart Recovery meetings.

CEO Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Management:


  • To provide leadership, clarity of purpose for the organisation, its staff and volunteers
  • To lead by example, show confidence and strong communication to the organisation and our partners.
  • Identify project goals and review timelines regularly alongside the project leads.
  • To effectively linemanage the Operations Manager, Administration Officer and project leads.
  • To work alongside and support the Peer Support Coordinator.
  • To identify new training and development needs within the organisation as well as schedule regular training for staff and volunteers.
  • To ensure that policies and procedures are current and implemented.
  • To ensure the implementation of safe and ethical practices.
  • Continue to follow the current Strategic Business and Operational Plan, reporting to the Trustees on its progress.

Finance and Admin:


  • Coordinate with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper in creating and monitoring budgets.
  • Liaise with and manage volunteer fundraising events.
  • Work alongside the fundraiser to build, nurture and maintain positive relationships with current funders, corporates and donors by stewarding them well.
  • Ensure income and expenditure data is recorded and monitored, specifically against grants awarded.
  • Set up and authorise payments on the bank accounts, including staff salaries, expenses and other related costs to the running of the charity.

Partnerships, Networking and Communication

  • To ensure Pushing Change develop and maintain an effective partnership with the Society of St. James, as our core contract requires.
  • To attend local partnership meetings, including the Combating Drugs
Partnership, to represent Pushing Change and the service user voice.

  • To ensure Pushing Change facilitates meaningful and constructive service user engagement in a range of relevant forums.
  • To network with key local contacts and represent the organisation at networking events.
  • Be aware of and involved in local/national initiatives related to the organisation.
  • To keep in Regular communication with commissioners, including attending quarterly performance monitoring meetings
  • To regularly communicate with supporters and donors.
  • To oversee the marketing and promotion of the charity by supporting the administrator and fundraiser in creating content on platforms such as social media, local press and the Pushing Change newsletter.

Other

  • Together with the Chair, to enable the Board of Trustees to fulfil its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the charity and to ensure that the board receives timely advice and appropriate information on all relevant matters.
  • To ensure that suitable DBS checks on staff/volunteers are carried out and are up to date.
  • To attend training courses and regional/national events as required.
  • To attend all bimonthly Trustee meetings and present updates on the organisation.
  • All appointees must comply with Pushing Change's safer recruiting policy which includes selfdisclosure forms, references and a disclosure and barring service
(DBS) check obtained by Pushing Change.
