The Neonatal Services within Nottingham Children's Hospital is a single service that comprises of two tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Units based at Nottingham City Hospital and QMC.

QMC comprises 17 cots; it is linked with the Regional Fetal Medicine service and provides the majority of neonatal surgery, including subspecialty work such as ENT and Neurosurgery.

The City Hospital has 22 cots and also manages all aspects of neonatal intensive care.

The Nottingham Neonatal Service serves over 10,000 Nottingham births per year.

It is the lead organisation for the north of EM-ODN (23,000 deliveries per year plus tertiary work from a total of around 32,000 births).

Each unit admits around 450 babies each year and completes over 2000 intensive care days.

The Service provides the regional neonatal surgical service and a regional tertiary medical intensive care service


We have two well-equipped and developed Neonatal Units with state of the art equipment, including integrated clinical monitoring, high frequency oscillation, inhaled nitric oxide and portable ultrasound.

The Service is well supported by pharmacy, dietetics, physiotherapy, paediatric radiology and neuro-radiology services and has access to the full range of paediatric specialist opinion.

Main duties of the job


The post holder will work alongside other colleagues and will gain experience in the management of sick new born infants receiving a full range of neonatal intensive care including babies requiring surgical intervention.

The shift pattern will be a full shift pattern which is compliant with the new Junior Doctor Contract regulations. The post holder will participate in a rota with 7 other individuals covering NICU shifts.

Educational supervision will be provided by a Consultant Neonatologist at NUH.

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of six months previous experience in Neonates or six months in a closely allied specialty (UK or equivalent).

Part 1 MRCPCH or equivalent level is highly desirable. The service offers good close working arrangements within a friendly team. The postholder will receive excellent training in Neonatology with good facilities and research experienc.

The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
