Community Education Liaison Officer - Rotherham

Salary:
£40,000 per annum


37.5 hours per week - Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00

(may require occasional evening or weekend work)

The main purpose of the role is to engage with the BDR Waste Partnership, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils, and communities across the area on a wide range of waste, resource and environmental topics.


Also, to deliver the 2023/24 CELO plan and, in conjunction with the Assistant CELO, develop and deliver the 2024/25 CELO plan in partnership with the Assistant CELO and Councils.


Your key responsibilities:


  • Work closely with the Assistant CELO, BDR Waste Partnership and Councils to deliver waste prevention, reuse, recycling, composting and waste disposal campaigns.
  • Manage the delivery of the 2023/24 CELO Plan including design, development and delivery of local campaigns, delivery of national campaigns, management of various websites and social media platforms and organising waste composition analyses
  • Manage the cooperative development of the 2024/25 CELO Plan and agreement of key objectives and deliverables with all South Yorkshire Councils.
  • Liaise with the BDR Waste Partnership team and communications and waste management staff within all three authorities to progress campaigns, gain approvals and manage delivery of projects
  • Work closely with JWS Media to ensure high quality traditional media coverage of the BDR contract, CELO works and joint working
  • Acting as the public face of the contract in press, media and radio interviews
  • Engage with the community in the area surrounding the facility, assisting with complaint handling, investigation and mitigation.
  • Developing, promoting and administering the Renewi Corporate Social Responsibility Fund and associated volunteer hours.
  • Producing regular high quality reports on the monthly and annual progress of the CELO plan and following individual projects.
  • Management of the annual Community Liaison Fund including annual agreement of the value, preparing a budget for approval by the Council and reporting against this.

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant topic such as Waste Management, Environmental Science, Resource Management or have equivalent skills and experience
  • Experience of working in or with local authorities in a waste management or environmental communications setting
  • Experience working with a diverse range of partners, stakeholders and communities
  • Experience working in a communications role with traditional and social media experience
  • Experienced in developing and delivering presentations to a diverse range of audiences
  • Be able to communicate clearly and have the ability to put complex technical information into plain English
  • Have experience planning and delivering broad scale campaigns, organising events and chairing meetings
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
  • Line management or supervisor experience
  • Access to and use of a vehicle
