Learning Support Teaching Assistant


ACS International Schools are recruiting a Learning Support Teaching Assistant to join the Upper School team at ACS Hillingdon International School.


The Learning Support Teaching Assistant will be required to assist the classroom teacher with the preparation and delivery of lessons and the welfare of the class students.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


  • Demonstrable levels of numeracy & literacy equivalent to GCSE (A-C) or NVQ Level 2 (or by test).
  • Hold relevant qualifications at a level equivalent to at least NVQ Level 3 for supporting and teaching & learning in school.
  • Teaching EFL/ESL Reading.
  • Supporting children with difficulties in reading and writing.
  • Attend induction training; as appropriate and training relevant to the post, including behaviour management and Child Protection training.
  • Knowledge of adolescent concerns and current information sources.
  • Ability to work in teams in a variety of circumstances; ability to accept change with flexibility.
  • Proactive, approachable, empathetic, organised, highly visible, confident, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to observe confidentially.

Principal Accountabilities:


  • Undertake activities with students in order to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development within a safe environment, sometimes under the supervision of a teacher.
  • Attend class where required with students and support their learning within the classroom environment.
  • Plan and prepare lessons in collaboration with classroom and LS teachers, including lesson planning, evaluating, and adjusting lessons/work plans.
  • Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in accordance with lesson plans and in response to student needs.
  • Motivate and progress students' learning by using clearly structured, interesting teaching, and learning activities.
  • Promote and support the inclusion of all students, including those with specific needs, both in learning activities and within the classroom.
  • Be aware of and support difference, and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Support students in order for them to gain independence to allow them to achieve their academic potential.
  • Assist in maintaining good discipline of students throughout the school day and escort and supervise students on planned educational visits and journeys.
  • Provide onetoone and small group support where required.
  • Work closely with the SEN Student Support Department and be guided by their instructions.
  • Follow instructions from the class teachers, respecting their guidance as to how they wish you to support students within their classes.
  • Be responsible for promoting and reinforcing students' selfesteem and encourage students they are supporting in order to maximise their achievement and development.
  • Be responsible for carrying out predetermined educational activities and work programmes; ensuring that specific guidelines are followed whilst promoting independent learning to support students' understanding.
  • Work to establish supportive relationships with students and parents concerned in order to facilitate effective communication and partnership between school and home.
  • Encourage acceptance and inclusion of students with additional needs to support achievement and development.
  • Be required to provide pushin and pullout support for students in specific classes.
