Description
An opportunity for a 3 month clinical fellowship in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Microbiology is now available.

The post holder will join a dynamic clinical team of consultants, specialist nurses and trainees and take a busy clinical role within the department.

The appointee will be expected to have an interest in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Microbiology and previous experience in these fields would be preferred.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a first class team in one of the largest paediatric teaching hospitals in Europe.

The clinical team receives referrals from across the hospital for advice on investigation and management of infection and immunology-related problems.

We also receive referrals from the AMS team and directly from the microbiology laboratory.

We work very closely with the on-site microbiology laboratory and have a review of positive cultures every morning with a Consultant microbiologist and laboratory staff before beginning rounds.

Requests for advice are also received from hospitals around the region.

A specialist HIV/immunology nurse with advanced clinical skills co-ordinates the care of our hepatitis, HIV and immunodeficiency patients and delivery of home and hospital-based immunoglobulin infusions.

As a leader in child healthcare and research, Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust provides care for more than 275,000 children and young people each year, making us one of the biggest and busiest children's hospitals in Europe.

This care is delivered not only on our main site in Liverpool, but in patients' homes and communities, and at other hospitals across the North of England.

Our state-of-the-art hospital, on our main site in Liverpool, opened in October 2015. It sets a new benchmark within the NHS and has won many prestigious industry awards. Buildings, however, are only as good as what happens inside them.

Our highly professional, skilled staff include some of the best clinicians in their field in the world.

This expertise is combined with a care and compassion, evident in all of our staff, that our patients and families tell us is unique.

This dedication and passion for putting our patients at the heart of everything we do has helped us to achieve a rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) - England's independent regulator of health and social care - of

'Good' overall and 'Outstanding' in the category of 'Caring'. This is something that we're proud of, but it's something that wouldn't have been possible without our staff.

The successful applicant will provide and support an outpatient and inpatient tertiary level consulting service within the Trust and will work with clinical and laboratory colleagues (NHS and academic) both within the Trust and outside.

The team runs daily parallel infection and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) ward rounds as well as regular specialist multidisciplinary team meetings.

The team oversees the specialist care of patients with HIV, TB and immunodeficiency as well as taking part in regional immunology clinics.

We work closely with colleagues within the on-site microbiology laboratory and academic colleagues in paediatric infection and microbiology at the University of Liverpool and have been at the forefront of the Trust's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
