Learner Support Worker
£20,812 - £22,777 pro rata (Grade 2)
Part-time, various hours / casual
Fixed Term Contract until 31 July 2023
This is an exciting time for the service and its journey towards becoming an outstanding provider of adult and community education.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Learning Support Assistant to join their very successful Learning Support team as soon as possible.
- The LSAs role will predominately focus on fulfilling individual learning support for our most vulnerable learners. Through this support the learner's retention, progression, achievement and pass outcomes are increased.
- Will support learners who are not attending for various personal reasons, may not be contacted nor supported to continue with their learning and thus not aspire to achieve their goals.
- Support the identified 'atrisk' BAES learners will be at the highest risk of withdrawals and low achievements and several learners that not progress on to the next level or other courses
- To support the Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES) tutor in the delivery of learning to specific individuals.
- Be flexible with timing to support learners am, pm, twilight, evening or weekend
- To support the achievement of learners with learning and/or physical disabilities, literacy, numeracy or other learning needs in Adult Education classes
- Be prepared to support on site or virtual learning
- Must complete all required mandatory training as required by BAES
Duties and Responsibilities
- To attend sessions as agreed with the tutor and/or Learner Support Coordinator (LSC) to provide support and encouragement for one or more learners in a group
- To liaise with the teacher, LSC and centre staff to understand and plan for specialist support
- To use specialist skills and knowledge to assist learners in each session this may include one to one help with literacy, numeracy and language needs as appropriate
- To assist the tutor in the follow up of learner's nonattendance especially where the learner's additional needs might be responsible for their absence
- To scribe/read/translate or interpret learning and assessment materials where permitted and appropriate.
- To be aware of, and work within, BAES policy guidelines with particular regard to Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Data Protection, Safeguarding and Local and National Government guidelines
- To support tutors with initial and ongoing assessments including progression reviews and evaluations.
- To be flexible in delivery of support as you may be required to support online, onsite or both.
- To attend or complete all mandatory training, meetings and any servicerelated requirements
