Job Summary:
Reporting to the Finance Valuations and Lyra change programme manager, you will design and oversee delivery of PMO services to a programme or portfolio, providing transparency of costs, timescales and risks.
You will provide assurance that programmes and projectsoperate within M&G's project change standards and champion the use of organisational project management tools.
Key Work Level Accountabilities:
Manager or Expert:
- Managing and motivating others to ensure quality of delivery to customers and stakeholders
- Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
- Manages conflicts that may impact delivery
- Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
Role specific:
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the PMO service, identify and implement effective improvement actions where required
- Provide financial reporting to programme and portfolio steercos, including actuals, forecasts, budgets and variances with narrative explanation of variance
- Work together with programme and project managers to develop governance structures such as steering committees, working groups, design forums with clear terms of reference, integrating with organisational governance
- Be a champion for the ServiceNow project management tool and drive its use in the programme
- Design and implement a regular reporting mechanism for projects and the programme, delivering information appropriate to the needs of relevant governance forums.
- Investigate anomalies in project reporting and raise suggested areas for improvement or further scrutiny from programme manager
- Review project and programme resource plans and draw attention to risks and omissions
- Maintain effective relationships with programme and project managers, key business stakeholders and sponsors and, where required, 3rd parties
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to design an appropriate governance and reporting framework
- Ability to configure and use a project management system such as ServiceNow
- Strong communication skills verbally and in writing so that the key message is understood
- Strong relationshipbuilding skills in order to support and constructively challenge others based on reason and value rather than direct authority
- Ability to summarise and explain costs and variances, relating this to project activities
- Analytical skills to examine accounts, documents and logs to identify discrepancies and omissions probing and deconstructing what you read and getting beneath face value to draw appropriate conclusions
- Analysis of cross programme dependencies
- Resource smoothing and utilisation reporting
Experience:
- Experience of building a PMO function or service
- Executive level narrative and/or numerical reporting of multiple projects and programmes costing up to hundreds of millions
- Operated in an environment with formal programme governance
- Experience of using an enterprise project management tool such as ServiceNow
