We are looking for a Surface Access professional who can help us redefine what's possible for our passengers and local community.

  • The Surface Access team's main role is to ensure that passengers and staff have convenient, consistent and safe access to the airport, whether they arrive by rail or road. The team manages operational, commercial and strategic stakeholder relationshipsto drive greater use of sustainable transport and improve the user experience of the transport networks to, from and around the airport campus.

What is the role?
The Surface Access Manager will manage and support the development, delivery and promotion of the Airport Surface Access Strategy(ASAS) and Staff Travel Plan at Gatwick Airport in support of the company's Section 106 Planning Obligations and Decade ofChange initiative


What will you do?

  • Deliver activities and interventions to help Gatwick achieve the targets set within the ASAS and other strategic documents and priorities (Rail Strategy, Active Travel Strategy, Bus & Coach Strategy and Roads Strategy) to help optimise Gatwick's positionin the region.
  • Develop, deliver and manage the Active Travel Strategy, Staff Travel Plan and Section 106 surface access commitments and the including engagement and consultation with third parties, including the Transport Forum Steering Group.
  • Manage the daytoday relationships with key transport operators, engaging with other airport teams and stakeholders to ensure a positive passenger experience, smooth operations and a positive commercial outcome for Gatwick.
  • Develop and manage the airport's Transport Forum (Steering Group and Transport Forum) in line with Government guidance and ensure that it continues to support delivery of the ASAS, Staff Travel Plan and other strategies.
  • Monitor and update any relevant internal or external comms channel for relevant travel / transport news, including the launch of new services or initiatives
  • Identify, influence and manage opportunities for the trial and adoption of bus services, future mobility services and sustainable transport.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Experience of working in an operational environment, preferably within the transport sector.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong experience of building effective relationships with stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Ability to listen to and understand complex problems and identify potential solutions, often working with internal and external teams.
  • Ability to represent the aims, objectives and needs of Surface Access within the wider airport operation and commercial context.
  • A strong aptitude for problemsolving, creativity and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Some experience of business and commercial development would be beneficial.
  • Strong team player, willingness to get involved and take accountability for key actions
  • Relevant qualification indicating a specific focus on transport or similar related discipline is desirable.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, Transport Planning Society) would be beneficial
