The Directorate of Student and Academic Services are currently recruiting to the role of Student Success & Retention Advisor, to join our newly established Faculty Student Centres.

The role will suit an experienced administrator with exceptional customer service skills, experience in accurate record management and keen eye for detail.


About The Role:


Student Success and Retention Advisors work within a Faculty Student Success and Retention Team reporting to the Student Success & Retention Team Leader.

This role will play a key part in supporting the University's attendance and engagement monitoring system to ensure students who are not engaging are identified early and proactive interventions can be made.

The role will work with students and colleagues to ensure that students are given every opportunity to remain on their course and achieve the best possible outcomes.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Establish and maintain good working relationships within the Faculties and wider University, including developing and maintaining effective networks to support referrals/signposting.
  • Be a key point of contact for retention related queries for both staff and students including attendance monitoring, student wellbeing and student change of circumstances
  • To support the Student Success and Retention Team Leader in monitoring the engagement of students on a visa within a Faculty, in adherence to UKVI and the Student Attendance policy; maintaining close communication with the Visa Compliance Team across the academic year.
  • To advise students and staff on aspects related to engagement, including withdrawals, interruptions, extenuating circumstances and attendance.
  • To ensure that students are at the heart of what we deliver and to be able to obtain meaningful feedback from students in the development and delivery of interventions.
  • To work in collaboration with colleagues across the directorate and wider university in delivering on the strategic objectives of Student and Academic Services

Skills and Experience:


  • A high level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of webbased solution, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software packages, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of providing high quality customer service in a complex environment.
  • Experience of maintaining student or other complex records accurately
  • Experience of working successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and explain complex regulations to students and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support, guide and inform as necessary.
