Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist - Service Improvement Lead

Children's Service - Hartlepool, Stockton and Darlington

We have a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, experienced and highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist.


This role will involves leading, coordinating and developing service improvements within the Speech and Language Therapy service across different localities in Hartlepool, Stockton and Darlington.

The post holder will also carry out clinical duties alongside their service improvement work.

The service promotes work-life balance and supports flexible working arrangements.

For new members of the team, there is period of induction and allocation of a personal mentor during the settling in period.


The post will provide opportunities to:

  • Lead on the development and coordination of service improvements and policy within the localities.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the leadership team to support change across the children's service.
  • Work with partner agencies in relation to service development.

To lead on the development and coordination of service improvements and policy within the localities, including pathway development with reference to evidence based practice.


To work collaboratively with the Management Team, Clinical Leads and Locality Team Leads to coordinate improvements across the whole of the children's service to ensure equitable provision.

To lead on improvements to the electronic client management system including waiting lists.

To support through service improvement, the provision of a highly specialist integrated service.

To advise the Management Team on service delivery issues including pressures and shortfalls.

To generate appropriate strategies to manage an individual specialist caseload including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge.

To develop and implement specialist care protocols and programmes of care and treatment, to meet the needs of clients in conjunction with their parents, carers, education staff and other members of the appropriate multi-disciplinary team (MDT)

To independently manage and/or negotiate the management of more complex cases with others e.g. Clinical Lead SLTs or other specialist support agencies.

To ensure clients/families are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans wherever possible.

To continually evaluate clinical effectiveness of intervention with individual clients, negotiate and implement changes.

To plan, implement and evaluate teaching and training to parents, carers, volunteers and professionals as appropriate.
