Reed Engineering are recruiting on behalf of our client in the seismology industry, who are looking for a full time Mechanical Design Engineer to develop products, new designs and a wide variety of bespoke solutions.


As a member of the Engineering Department you will have a varied role, involved from an early stage with prototype designs where every project is different and technically challenging.


Responsibilities:


  • 3D Modelling using SolidWorks; including the preparation of part and assembly files
  • 2D drafting using SolidWorks to prepare detailed drawings for part models for subcontract suppliers and general assembly drawings to support the manufacturing phase.
  • Supporting calculations both hand and computerised, including FEA, in order to be able to verify and validate designs to ensure we comply with all the latest ISO/BS/EN standards and produce reports to support findings.
  • Support the complete Engineering sales process from first customer contact through to order fulfilment, having direct contact with the sales teams, purchasing, quality and production departments.
Desired Skills & Profile

  • A new or recent graduate in a relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, Production Engineering or any other General Engineering degree.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of a 3D CAD package; ideally SolidWorks however experience in AutoCAD Inventor, SolidEdge, ProE will be considered as an alternative.
  • Ability to handle design projects from concept design through to detailed manufacturing drawings;
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings
  • Good analytical and mathematical skills able to do simple mechanical hand calculations to support engineering activity.
  • Structured working approach to high quality standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Able to present self well when communicating with customers and suppliers.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Good command of the English language (spoken and written).
Pay is between 23 and £26,000 with a view to long term growth being substantial
