You will take a clinical leadership role in supporting the development and running of joint remote orthodontic/paediatric clinics within Kent Community Healthcare NHS Trust (KCHFT) Dental Services in
conjunction with the Clinical Directors of Kent and North East London and our Paediatric Dental Consultant.

You will be responsible for the provision of orthodontic opinions to
children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems, medically compromised, severe anxiety or phobia and other
disability or conditions that directly or indirectly affects their oral health.

It is envisaged that a major component of the clinic referrals will be for multidisciplinary treatment planning of poor prognosis first permanent molars.


The post holder will be responsible to the Clinical Director and will assist them as required in the day to day operational activities of KCHFT Paediatric/Orthodontic Specialist Remote Dental Clinics.

This remote clinic will receive referrals from all KCHFT dental clinics, those in North East London & Kent.

You will be involved in training and development programmes for the referring dentists to ensure that referrals of sufficient quality are received onto the clinic so future treatment needs can be agreed.

You will act as an ambassador for the Service, promoting the highest standards of excellence in working practices.

  • Provide high quality specialist orthodontic advice during remote specialist clinics for children who are unable to accept routine dental care because of some physical,developmental, medical, emotional, sensory, mental or social impairment, or a combination of these factors according to the criteria and protocols relevant to the specialty of Paediatric dentistry.
  • Support clinicians in providing Level 2 Paediatric dentistry, to their patients by accepting referrals that meet the joint clinic referral acceptance criteria,assisting them in multidisciplinary treatment planning by providing the orthodontic opinion.
  • Support any necessary further developments to the successful implementation of the Joint Orthodontic/Paediatric Specialist Remote clinic.
  • Be responsible for the clinical leadership and clinical quality assurance of Orthodontic Dentistry provided by KCHFT Dental Services within the context of these remoteorthodontic/paediatric clinics. This role will be carried out within the context of the Directorate's clinical governance system, working in conjunction with the ClinicalDirector and Paediatric Consultant.
  • Support our Paediatric Consultant in ensuring that appropriate links and onward referral systems are established with local Consultants in Orthodontic dentistry.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies in collaboration with our Paediatric Consultant/Specialists relating to the joint remote clinic within Dental Services in line with localand national guidance.
